I am reading a great book on the battle of Corunna, and it tells of 9,000 men of the Spanish Romana Division being landed back in Spain after being carried by the Royal Navy from Northern Germany. It says these were some of the best and most organized Spanish troops available in the early fight to free Portugal and Spain of eh French. However it does not say what regiments these 9,000 came from. Does anyone know specifically which regiments these men were? I have a pretty good list of the Spanish regiments that made up the Romana Division when Napoleon sent it to Germany, but I am not sure all of the regiments made it back to Spain in 1808? Thanks, Terry |

Terry, I do believe just about all of them got away. I cannot put my finger on it right now but somewhere I have an account of how the British Agents (someone highly placed in Denmark IIRC) made contact and arranged for them to be taken off. That account does not have any particulars about who was taken off but IIRC the French were pretty much too late to stop any of them from leaving. mjc |

many thanks Jon, Exactly what I was looking for! I have ordered a couple of the Oman volumes but haven't gotten them in yet. Your info will allow me to finish fleshing out an early Peninsula Spanish DBN army. Terry |
