All -

I wanted to write a quick note about CY6 Scenario Book progress.

Last weekend we did an "in house" playtest of several scenarios from the forthcoming "8th Air Force: Breaking the Luftwaffe" CY6! scenario book (we have 18 written now). Over a two day period we played 12 scenarios with the first starting on 10 October 1943 and the last on 6 March 1944.

The scenarios survived with only minor changes and we made great progress on what we are calling the "8th AF Campaign System". The system uses some new rules for calculating victory points that are customized to the 8th AF campaign. For example, German Veteran and Ace aircrews are worth A LOT of VPs since the major objective for the US is to destroy the Luftwaffe (aircrews) before D-Day. We hope to use this campaign system in other campaign/scenario books as well.

The most impressive thing is that the campaign score, after 2 days, ended up at 177 to 178, only ONE point apart – we could hardly believe it.

Anyway, things are moving along nicely. The book will be released most likely next summer (2009).

Also – the Defense of Hungary CY6! Campaign book is on track for release this November – it really is going to be great as it follows the Hungarian "Puma" unit in its desperate fight against the US and Soviet air forces (the book will have two "mini-campaigns" that allow you to face either the US or Soviets or both). It will be the first appearance in CY6 scenarios of the late war Soviet Air Force and I promise the scenarios are great – the first is a "balloon busting" mission, it does not get much better that that!

Cheers,
Scott

Good to hear things are progressing – are you guys recommending individual basing for the bombers or three plane flights?

Scott, will you guys be at Historicon and can we play some of these scenarios? Please? I missed gaming with you and Mark and the guys at Cold Wars.

I don't know where you come up with your ideas but they are intriguing. When are you going to have some games on the west coast?

Still waiting (though grateful there are at least a few done in the rulebook!) for a Brewster Buffalo scenario book – spanning the great and storied life of this stalwart chubby little workhorse!

I'm guessing Finland is probably on the agenda anyway?

Scott, Spring Fever is coming up May 15-17 in Raleigh NC. We would be glad to play test some of your scenarios for you. Here is the link for the Con: trianglesimsociety.org

Mike and all-

Not sure when I will get a game in on the West Coast but I do remember many great cons right out of College in WA state – starting with RADCON in the Tri-Cities. I hope to get back someday soon and will host a game or three.

I would like to do a Finland book as I am really keen on the subject but it will not be for some time.

Cheers,
Scott
