I vowed just a few days ago not to start modern wargaming.

but I can't stop my self,

I was wondering about good 28mm figs US/german for the 44-45 period

for us, I would like to consentrate on Airborne 82nd or 101st, and for germans, any thing those troops might have met and fought.

I'm not a big fan of armor, but It would be cool to make a game with 1 piece of armor on each side

also looking for rules(not FOW)

thanks

Look into Two Hour Wargames "Nuts" or Two Fat Lardies' "I Ain't Been Shot, Mum!" for skirmish-sized games with or without armor.

also.

I need some paint, I don't have any that would fit with M42 kaki uniforms and the pacarnized(spelling) gun metal

Actually, for SKIRMISH sized games, the Two Fat Lardies game for you would probably be "Troops, Weapons & Tactics". I don't want to start a debate as to what counts as skirmish, so I will clarify:

IABSM: Company per side, with the possibility for dozens of tanks.

TW&T: Platoon per side, usually a tank or two max.

OR, before you spend your hard-earned dough, you can try out my game, Over There!, for free! OT is a modern skirmish wargame made by wargamers, for wargamers, and has the most innovative and fun game mechanics yet seen on the tabletop!*

It covers conflicts from 1914 to 2014 with a platoon per side (with quick rules to scale it down to a squad or up to a company). One figure is one man or vehicle, and soldiers can act independently or in coordination with their squads. The action is very detailed (one man gives covering fire while the next darts across the street, kicks down a door and picks up his wounded buddy) and very easy to track (no charts, no modifiers, no paperwork… the rules use only three or four six-siders). It's also highly realistic (with battlefield stress and changing battlefield conditions force you to adapt and switch up your tactics in the middle of the game) and lots of fun.

Crusader does some pretty good Germans. Also For the Size games it sounds like you are looking for you might want to take a look at AEWW2. Even though it does have Pulp Elements in it you can leave them out and use just the historical units.

Take a look at Victory Force mini:

victoryforce.com

Spot on for what you need and the best detail and historical accuracy out there. Poses are anatomically correct, the customers service is second to none and you actually get a say in future minis via the Yahoo group!

Battleground WWII is the game for you, best skirmish level game in my opinion. Victory Force or Artizan have huge miniatures lines with great posses and prices.

And when you want to get into Weird WWII come and see me.

thanks for all the help so far.

I have a serius lack of good paint were I live.

can anybody give me a color code for some GW paint that can be used for parkerized metal and noe for kaki?

Achtung Minen09 May 2008 10:26 a.m. PST

Your best bet for DAK khaki in GW colours is their "Desert Yellow" conveniently enough. Here's a comparison:

If you can get them in Norway, however, I recommend GW's new foundation range of paints (that is, if you can't get Vallejo). They are better colours and are much easier to apply (you only need one coat). I would suggest "Iyanden Darksun" for DAK khaki and "Adeptus Battlegrey" for parkerized metal.

Gunfreak09 May 2008 11:12 a.m. PST

thanks. I'll just have to go and see what they have.

I do have a complete 101st airborne M42 and M43 uniform with webbing, weapon, and all the trimings

so I do have something to paint after

Achtung Minen09 May 2008 12:02 p.m. PST

Oh, duh, you wanted US Airborne khaki… honestly you are better off getting this for the uniform colours then:

Major Thom09 May 2008 12:39 p.m. PST

If you are doing earlier US uniforms I would suggest Kommando Khaki and Graveyard Earth.

Here is an example.

If you have access to paint guides that use Vallejo Paints then you can use this color conversion for Vallejo Paints to Craft paints: link

Thunder09 May 2008 3:43 p.m. PST

I use craft paints all the time and they generally work just fine.

@Gunfreak,

Since you're interested in '44-'45, why not try (gasp!) Mongoose's newly released "World at War"? From what I hear the rules are well written, fast and fun. I just ordered my copy even though I already own "Disposable Heroes:Coffin for Seven Brothers," "Nuts!" and "Rules of Engagement."

Gunfreak10 May 2008 7:42 a.m. PST

I'm also looking for a German Halftrack, you knoe the troops carriers with a M42 on top.

Neumark Jaeger10 May 2008 6:05 p.m. PST

How about renegade ww2?

johnnytodd10 May 2008 7:18 p.m. PST

There are several companies that make the Sdkfz 251 halftrack in a variety of scales compatible with 28mm. Some models are better than others. JTFM will be releasing a series of them this coming week – I expect they will be worth waiting for.

For those who are interested, it looks like Renegade updated their site with pics of the new WWII releases. They look really nice. Still don't get why one of the MG gunners has MP-40 pouches, but I don't like that pose anyway so will probably not use it. Lots of rifle poses, and heavy weapons are coming so this stands to be a pretty complete range.

I got the ain't been shot mum.

they seem ok, but I doubt I'll play them much, abit to much of a hassle with the blids ect.

looking more for a straight up fight

Gunfreak11 May 2008 8:44 a.m. PST

I think I might a found the rules for me, Operation World War 2. free and everything

Darryl at Faction Wars11 May 2008 12:27 p.m. PST

I have been playing, and thoroughly enjoying, Rules of Engagement for several months. You can download a tutorial from the Download section of the greatescapegames.com web site (the guys that wrote the ruleset).

If you want a ruleset for skirmishes, with maybe a single piece of armour per side, then RoE is worth a try.

Gunfreak12 May 2008 8:57 a.m. PST

I orderd some Vallejo Paints, it was easier then trying to find apripriate colors by other makes.
