(Yes, I know, he isn't technically "driving" it.) Ahem. You've probably all seen the Snickers "Get some nuts!" commercial featuring the A-Team's Mr T. If not, you can read about how it was made (and there's a link to the video) here: link Anyway, I was wondering what tank they used? The article mentions that it was shot in LA. The fuel drums on the back give it a Soviet feel "in general" but the specifics are all wrong. I wondered if perhaps it was an old Leopard or Patton or somesuch, modified to make it look a bit more up-to-date? A real classic Hollywood mash-up, like the tanks in Battle of the Bulge, or the "Hinds" in many movies including that one about the invasion of the USA whose name escapes me (Wolverines?)? |

It's a T-55 with a bunch of crap strapped on. Check the roadwheel spacing and the main gun bore evacuator. You are thinking of the incredibly awful "Red Dwan", by the way. Allen |

Thanks Allen, that was fast! I wonder what the "crap" is – particularly those two boxy bits on the front of the turret? They really do a good job of breaking up the turret shape, which I have to admit is about all I normally go on when identifying Soviet stuff. The T55 normally looks so dated
Here's another T55 with those same boxes on the turret: picture And a couple looking more "traditional" (with less crap strapped on): picture Red Dawn, terrible? Hmm. I thought its portrayal of the atrocities perpetrated on the civilian population was interestingly low-key. Some of its other messages were less subtle. |

I hope it was obvious those picture links were more for my benefit, or for any other TMPers who have (had?) slightly more mundane day jobs and are therefore a bit less knowledgeable when it comes to Soviet bloc gear! |
| Static Tyrant | 08 May 2008 3:53 a.m. PST |
Ah, cool. It's a T55 AM2, which explains the boxes on the turret. They would be the "bra armour"! link This (1:35?) model is shown at a nice angle, you can make out the turret armour clearly. picture I suppose someone will be along shortly to ask if QRF makes one. They don't appear to but I'm prepared to be surprised! |

Hah! 44 minutes, well, that might be some sort of record. Obviously more TMPers need to place orders with this fine chap to keep him busy! |

In my opinion, Red Dawn was pretty crappy! |

I feel the same way only doubled and with MUCH more DH-able language involved, but the movie seems to have a lot of fans. More power to 'em. |

I suspect ones views on the film "Red Dawn" have a great correlation with ones politics. I will stop know as I have just seen a large arrow sign saying "Dawghouse the way" |

John, I think we get the message by now . . . :) I was wondering about that tank too – Knew it was a pre-1970 Soviet tank but unsure as to details. |

Red Dawn was a fun (although silly) movie. I liked it. Not a hawkish John Boorman fan, just liked it. |

The Cold War. HAH! You know the Russkies came in 2nd Place when you see us using their old tanks on our candy bar commercials. Take that, Kruschev! |

No Mr T figure though
] I pity the fool who tried to make a Mr T figure without a licensing agreement. Though perhaps a Mr T-55 figure would be acceptable

Am I alone in thinking that this would make a fine command tank for AK47? Peter Pig might even have a suitable figure. |
| Covert Walrus | 11 May 2008 2:47 a.m. PST |
What's all this jibberjabber 'bout AK47, fool? Seriously, a mini of this tank plus all the gypsy caravan decorations is certainly perfectly suited for African campaigns. |
