This is for anyone who has used the painting services in Sri Lanka. If figures are cast with open hands, will these services attach a wire spear? If yes, do they use superglue or resin? And di you supply the wire spears, or can they make them onsite? How are they on multi-part models like elephants and chariots? Is it better to assemble it yourself, and then ship it to be painted? Thanks for any info |

They will attach spears etc for a small extra fee. I think it's listed on the website, for Fernando anyway. I attach my own pikes, but have had them assemble 25mm cav including lances. I don't know what they use as you can't see it under the paint, but they stick pretty well. Not sure about bigger models sorry, but have always been very, very happy with Fernando. The only problems i've had came from not providing detailed enough painting info, and again nothing that a little retouching by myself couldn't sort. |

They aren't wargamers or historians so I suggest that you put anything tricky together yourself. If you have something which might break, like your elephant then you can araldite it together yourself with araldite rapide. If you are really worried drill and pin the piece. Then you should be OK. My experience with having Fernando assemble stuff is not good. Only once did I have his people glue my cavalry onto their horses. Those guys came back leaning every which way. Now I glue everything myself, and also do all the figure prep, filing off mold lines, etc. I leave ONLY the painting to Fernando. But his folks do a good job of that. |

I've had Fernando attach pikes to some Old Glory ECW figures and had no problems. Full models like FoW tanks or Chariots I would assemble myself
that's just me. |

I echo other's sentiments for two reasons. First, when in doubt, get it done right, and do it yourself. Second, by puting them together it's like your not totally cheating by having them painted. ;) At least for me since I come to realize I'm not a huge fan of painting, but I like converting and modelling. I have had well over 1000 figures painted by Fernando's staff over the last 5 years. The painting is great!, but as noted these folks are not gamers or modellers. If you want extra services, give detailed instructions, pictures and maybe an example already done. Do not expect them to know how to put a multi-part chariot together, for example. Vehicles likewise. Moreover, you do not know what adhesive they will use. I assemble models myself, and attach all short weapons with 2 part epoxy. Pikes and spears attached to figures do not travel that well. Fernando puts figures singly in little zip lock bags which are often too small if there is a long weapon attached. Mounted troops travel better as separate horse and rider. I keep the pikes and spears, and even loose rifles unattached and then do so when they get here. I do lots of conversions, head and weapons changes and send for painting. If you do these make very strong bonds, epoxy rather than instant glue which is brittle.
If you want great painting, for a low cost, send your figures to Fernando, but consider doing your own construction, before or after painting. |

Good advice from Bob, and a congratulatory sniff from his Dog. |
