My first Flames of War army will be a mid-to-late unit centered around PanzerGrenadiers and lots of armor. While I'm making progress in assembling my 1/87 scale vehicles, I couldn't seem to muster up the enthusiasm to do a good job on the troops.

Fortunately, a pair of long-time modellers, who call themselves the Snafu Brothers, decided that my mix of Preiser and Peter Pig troops made a perfect diversion from their regular projects. They have attacked the project with utmost glee. The rank and file troops – mostly the Peter Pigs are being painted with a mix of uniforms suitable for Tunisia and Europe. The Preiser figures will mostly be support units, passengers and some infantry. So far, they mix pretty well.

Preiser designs their multi-part plastic figures mostly for display and very few figures are combat poses. The rest are more or less static, or just troops marching about. Seizing upon the opportunity, the Snafu Collective has made some conversions and are working on some small dioramas which will likely work up to be objectives such as a group of pilots playing cards or some troops engaging in a little black market activity.

Pictures of two of the first converted sets; Medics and a Radio team are here:

If the rest are as well done, you'll have a very nice set of toys at your disposal.

One of your medics looks strange, since he's square-gaiting…

Nicely painted though!

Ah, the Snafus, I don't subscribe to the dblchm yahoo group (about plastic figures) any more, but those fellows were frequent and valuable contributors.

It's nice to see their work and it's really great stuff. I really really like the radio set – I did this myself for a couple of company commander stands.

Interesting choice of the clear stand for the radio team though. I use this sort of thing for my ships, but haven't done it for figures.
