If people had not heard. As of June you will only be able to pay for Ebay items using paypal within Australia instead of other options such as EFT, Money Order or cheque. There is an online petitiion which will be presented to the ACCC to stop them going ahead. they tried it on in the USA and got stomped for it, now they're trying it here in Oz.

If you buy or sell on Ebay, I urge you to sign it.

signed it, I only buy from ebay now, as no real value can be made on there by selling stuff.

Sounds like a sneak attempt to force sellers into using Paypal.

Pat Ripley Fezian07 May 2008 4:11 a.m. PST

they didn't bother sneaking, they simply sent emails out telling sellers it was happening

I stopped selling for the same reason.

>If you buy or sell on Ebay, I urge you to sign it.

Done.

The CEO for e-Bay was quoted, a few weeks ago(?), as complaining that e-Bay still looked like a flea market! You have to wonder what they pay him for… Flea market buying/selling is what made e-Bay. If they turn it into a large-volume-commercial-vendors'-only store front, I believe it will crash and burn. Time will tell, though.

This latest PayPal scheme is nothing new. Before they bought the PayPal corporation, they tried to force people to use the e-payment service which they had made the "official" e-Bay payment service (Bill-Pay?), but people complained, and PayPal was allowed -- e-Bay bought PayPal shortly thereafter. :-0

I love the stuff I am able to find on e-Bay, but I don't care for e-Bay, the corporation. I don't like their new business conduct, which appears to be aimed at eliminating the seller base which made them what they are today, the little people, the flea market sellers. If they succeed, I will have almost no use for e-Bay anymore. Cheers!

Wow, thats a smack to the face of eBay fans. I still use it and primarily with Paypal, but forcing someone to do so is a bit much.

That is why I am always open to the suggestion of sales off Ebay, but of course I can't suggest it if you contact me through them…

I take as an indication of the attractiveness of eBay that convention flea markets are resurging after a nearly decade-long slump.

done. Yeah, I used to sell and buy loads on ebay, but not any longer. Ebay doesn't encourage/help sellers and too many sellers are dodgy rip-offs ….. only my opinions …. oh, and the prices some people are asking are getting ridiculous.

skaran13 May 2008 10:26 a.m. PST

Also done. I have bought quite a lot on ebay, but I have never liked being forced. If this gets through ebay will lose my custom immediately.

brush monkey13 May 2008 5:26 p.m. PST

Done also. Smart from a business viewpoint but dumb for the constituents which actually make them who they are. I dont sell on Ebay only buy, so cant comment but I am sure its a good % they take.

Viva la revolution
