I hope so, because I painted a 30 man "army" of Royal Navy shore party according to it. However, I am increasingly seeing pictures of the Royal Navy enlisted man with a reversed uniform i.e., white cap and dark blue shirt and trousers. I am hoping that both variants were permissible.

It is a really nice paintjob, and I'd hate to strip the figs. grin

From what I recall, Whites were summer uniforms, while Blues were winter uniforms.

Correct, white in the summer, blue in the winter.
Usually they would have a white cap in summer as well.
However, wartime issue WW11 were dark blue caps.
This time period is earlier so I'm not so sure. But they look right to me.

Looks right to me – I did a Royal Navy unit for a friend with blue caps, blue jackets and white trousers based on a Zulu war photo

In the field, there seems to have been a lot of mix and match, I suspect largely dependent on what was available – if they look good, that's all that matters (well, and how the dice roll)

WW11 when did we get there? I can only remember the monkey civil war sparked off WW9.

My "watchers" now say I have to perform for the crowds…. Damn dirty apes.

WW11 when did we get there?

42nd Ypres, now there was a battle.

I've seen photos from the Sudan War (1883) in which groups of sailors are wearing every conceivable mix of white and blue, seemly throw together at random. Presumably on campaign they wore whatever from the two uniforms were cleanest and less tatty.

There are also photos showing a mix of caps and straw hats.

Regarding the accoutrements. They are completely incorrect! Prior to 1881 (or there abouts)the British Naval Brigades were served out with pouch and belt accoutrements with buff belts. After 1881 all accoutrements were brown, and the universal locket was no longer used. The standard snake buckle was adapted to the new equipments. The weapon used in the print is either the P'58 Naval pattern, or the Snider-Enfield conversion there of. Hope that this helps.
