A buddy and I are going to jump into Full Thrust for some Battlestar Galactica space combat action. We've never played before, so I've got a question. How many ships makes a decent battle given that there aren't really any "medium" size ships (not counting the rest of the fleet)? We'll have Galactica, Vipers, Raptors, Base Stars, Raiders and Heavy Raiders. |

If you aren't deadset on stick with the cannon of the current series there are these: link |

About four or six ships work nicely if you have a lower limit on the size of vessels; Larger hulls make longer games and after all, you'll be using SMLs to stick with canon. ( "remember, stay the hell out of Galactica's fire resolution!" ) You might want to use the 3-die-per-PDS rule as well. |

Ground Zero Games actually do a 'Civilian Ships' fleet deal right now for the Full Thrust minis line
.might be worth checking out to bulk up that fleet. |

Check out the SCN forums star-ranger.com/Home.htm (if you havn't already) for lots of peoples BSG stats for Full thrust. Full Thrust has enough detail for a handfull of ships to be a fun game but is streamlined enough to handle a dozen or more a side so size of game is up to you, start small and expand till you find what gives you the most fun. Robert, why should I listen to a frakkin' toaster? ;) I found Star-Ranger today. Never done any space gaming before so I'd never been there. I also found some Silent Death BSG stuff which looked cool. I see that's available as a PDF for $9 USD so I might try that too. |

Yikes! Playing around with the UFTWWWP after all these years really reminds me how I MUST revamp that cite. |

What is the "3-die-per-PDS rule as well"? Thanks, Xin |

The nickname predates the new BSG and came about when I had to fix a toaster after flight crew snagged the aircraft as U/S highest priority because the couldn't toast their bread. Pilots no sense of reality. Robert |

Xintao, there has been a suggestion floating around to have each PDS roll three dice, splittable among targets, against fighters and missiles. Supposably to fix the 'broken' fighter rules . . . |

Hexxenhammer, If you don't mind going a little outside of canon, I have posted a pretty substantial list of Colonial ships statted out for FT over at link You don't have to go too far out of canon to get a couple of options for Cylons – the "guardian basestar" from Razor makes an excellent mid-sized cylon ship. And while the fighter rules at times feel broken in FT, IMHO they work great for BSG precisely because fighters are a major part of a ships ability to project offense AND defense. Current List of ships posted includes: Columbia Class Battlestar Cronus Class Gunstar (based on Ravenstar's EXCELLENT Cronus model) Deimos Class Escort Delphi Glass Gunstar Diana Class Strikestar Erinyes Class Heavy Destroyer (an old Caprican design refitted for picket duty during the First Cylon War) Mercury Class Battlestar Typhon Class Escort Cruiser (same hull as the Erinyes, but fitted with antifighter weaps as a Battlestar escort) Valhalla Class Battlestar (the Valkyrie was one of these) Cylon Cerberus Class Basestar (a late war smaller basestar – the GUARDIAN basestar was a Cerberus hull with an testbed Hybrid control computer) Cylon Hades Class Basestar (the original basestar of the First Cylon War) Cylon Styx Class Basestar (a Hades upgrade with more fighters and a modest increase in hull strength) Cylon Lethe Class Basestar (the new one)
I am working on – Defender and Ranger class colonials, a few Cylon auxiliaries, and some other speculative fan designed classes – the multi-prongeed basestars that are floating around on the net, etc. Questions, comments, crude remarks always welcome! |

Oh, and to actually answer your question – we've done engagements of up to 10 on a side – but because battles are very fighter and missile heavy, more than that gets pretty cluttered pretty quickly. We even did a pretty big 3-d engagement (gotta love how easily FT adapts!) at origins a few years back – pics are on that same page above, under the photo gallery, but you'll have to click back a page or three as there are a lot of miniatures posted there as well. |

Thanks all. Worldwildwebb, that might be the stuff my buddy found that set all this off. Here's what we're going to end up doing. My buddy is going to get the capital ships from Studio Bergstrom and Ravenstar probably and we'll do Full Thrust with his stuff for big engagements. Also, I fell in love with Silent Death while researching all this. I've always been more of a fighter/dogfight kinda guy. So I bought a frakkin' load of Studio Bergstrom fighters for BSG Full Thrust. There's some custom BSG stats on Boardgamegeek.com under the Silent Death: New Millennium entry. So when it's time to get down and dirty with Starbuck vs Scar in the asteroid belt, we'll be able to rock. By the way, Studio Bergstrom was great with my order. Replied within 90 minutes with a total and paypal link. Should have my stuff next week. Frakkin' awesome. |

Drew rocks – and his figs are great – especially the newest wave. The Heavy Raiders are top notch (and motivated me to do a bunch of updates recently to the FT stuff) Please do download the latest versions, we adjusted a lot based on some recent playtests, so the ones from even last week have been changed significantly. |
