I believe they have had several different metal giants over the years.

I have one of their earlier versions. He's got a full head of hair and a beard and very bushy eyebrows. He's wielding a tree trunk as a weapon, and has a barrel of Bugmans Brew slung around his neck hanging by his waist.

He stands just a pinch above 4" tall. Here's a piccy I found on the net of the old giant:

I think the metal Giant kit they came out with after this one gave you several head and other options. But he hat a topknot of hair, was wielding a signpost as a weapon, and I believe he was taller.

Now they have the plastic giant, and he's also got several options, but he's mostly bald and pot-bellied.

If you download the GW free rules for giants, and scroll to page 2, you can see a current Ogre Kingdoms Ogre, then the old giant (the one after mine) and then the new plastic one, side by side.

If my old one is 4" I think the next one was 5-6" so the plastic must be 7-8" tall. Just guessing.

Here is a link to the free rules:

Of course if somebody has one nad can post the actual height, then you won't need to guess : )

The second generation Giant (he of the multiple heads and signpost) was shorter than the old Marauder Giant (treetrunk and all his hair).

I purchased my giant back in the early 90s for my beloved Orcs to field. Only ever wanting or needing one, I pretty much have ignored any other giant models, only being aware of them because of occasional White Dwarf articles.

So Gypsy … you are saying the signpost-wielding giant stands a little shorter than 4" then? I would have sworn he was taller. If I knew the approximate date he was released, I could go back and thumb through my old White Dwarf issues, and see if they ever did a release article. They probably didn, and it's their nature to sometimes mention that the new model is bigger/badder than the last one. They may have stated how big it was.

Of course, you can't get that one any more either, since they went to the plastic kits, and discontinued access to any of their classic minis.

Alan Perry's Citadel Giant link has five head options and a pity it's long OOP.

While that picture shows him on a WFB style base, he appears to be pre-slotta, which takes him out of the WFB generation count. Citadel was sculpting to the 40mm square slotta *very* quickly after its introduction.

What White Dwarf was that old Giant advertised in?

I just re-read WD #315 and there was no mention of the height of the figure(s). Not even a hint (like "This new giant is 25% larger than our old model"). There was even an article on how to build it with all the optional pieces, and another on sculpting, and a battle report featuring two giants per side, and still, no mention.

I don't trust the photo that shows the sign-wielding giant next to the new plastic. They don't have a caption stating that the photos are all scaled the sdame way.

But … if we were to trust those photos, knowing that the treetrunk-wielding giants stands at just over 4" and Gypsy says the signpost-wielding giant was a bit shorter, and the plastic giant appears to be larger, I'd say the new plastic giant is around 5.5" tall.

If it helps any, the old Marauder Giant and that fossil Condottiere dug up would have been on 40mm squares. IIRC, the striding metal giant of the two heads started on a 40mm square and got promoted to a 50mm square at some point, while the new plastic giant is on a 50x75mm base.

I built my own 60mm square base for that old Marauder Giant. There was just no way he could fit properly on a puny 40mm base. He's got a wide stance, and I didn't fancy putting him on the base diagonally and having heals and toes extend beyond the base.

Yes, it meant more enemies could get into base to base with him. He didn't care … he's a giant! ; )

Glad to hear the new giant is on a 50mm x 75mm. I was looking carefully at the base in the battle report photos, and it looked like that to me, so this was confirmation.

As a side note the new High Elf Dragon has been up-based to 50x100mm (aka the "Chariot" base).

The FLGS store armies include the two most recent Giants. I'll try to get measurements.
