Hi all,

I have added another Figure from the Perry's HYW Range onto my Gallery.

Henry V: link

I tried a different approach to the Horse of Henry V and used a technique which I first read about in Danilo Cartacci's fantastic Book "Painting Miniatures". The book is an absolute Inspiration and has got some of the best hints and tips I have seen in a while.

I used a small sponge and stippled the dapple effects onto the horse, followed by a few stages of feathering and careful blending. I was rather impressed with the result and will use it again for the future.

I did realise in the end that the horse should have been maybe a bit lighter to establish better the contrast between the Horse metal head protection and the rest of the grey horse. I need to keep that in mind next time, ;-).

I hope you like him anyway and comments are always welcome

Kind regards

Sascha

The head armor piece for the horse blends in a bit, could use a darker shade or brass or gold outline?? it matches the horse flesh a bit much,,loved the fig and the paint job, great job on the heraldry.

I think that you are right about the contrast between the chamfron(?) – the horses head armour and the grey of the horse but I'm not sure going lighter would be the answer?

The dappling effect looks good but from the pics I've seen of horses the 'spots' (for want of a better word) are more obvious in places. In other words maybe leave one or two spots and don't blend them? Does that dappling effect also occur on the horses neck? Overall I don't know how you achieve such a result even on a 28mm figure!

Per usual I only wish I could even approach such a standard!

A quick google search reveals that there is quite a variety of patterns on dappled grey horses with the 'spots' being more prevailant on some rather than others! Grey spots on white background, dark grey background, 'flea bitten' pattern etc. Its still something of an achievement to do that in 28mm!

Excellent as always – and you even painted the heraldry on the jewelled claps of the belt!

Excellent! As always.
I do find the horse a tad too silver for my liking. Just a personal preference.

Cheers!

Beautiful work. And I think gray horses need protection, too.
