Were all of the Netherlands artillery units clothed in the standard blue uniforms or were there some attached to the Nassau brigades clothed in green?

donlowry05 May 2008 3:29 p.m. PST

Pretty sure there were no Nassau artillery units in Wellington's army, just infantry. So all the Netherlands artillerymen would have worn blue.

raducci05 May 2008 5:26 p.m. PST

All the Nassau artillery batteries were brigaded with the Highland Light Artillery and the British cuirassiers at Mons in 1815.
True.

Just a poor joke cpalmer. I hope you dont take offence.

All of my research indicates that all Dutch-Belgian artillery wore the blue uniform with a Austrian style double billed shako. I am not aware of any Nassau artillery in green coats.

No offence raducci, good to keep things light. Might have seen a stupid question but just seen two units painted in 2nd Nassau green for sale through e-bay. Look good but not on my OOB so thought worth checking. Thanks for others feedback too

cpalmer: if it comes to "stupid questions" Ill bet in my time Ive asked more than you!
Thanks for being a good sport.
You may have missed the recent flame wars here? I like it when theres a bit of humour and good natured ribbibg along with the solid historical information sharing.
It was very wvery tense here for several months. I mostly didnt post but some have left some have lightenedup and its a better place.
Anyway, what scale Nasauers?

cpalmer06 May 2008 5:38 a.m. PST

Why? Does the scale alter the uniform colour then! :-)
The ones for sale on e-bay are 25mm by the way.
Shall not be bidding for these. They appear to be well painted though.

Haythornthwaite's Napoleonic Source Book doesn't list an artillery branch for Nassau for any campaign.

They did have a cavalry regiment, also in green, formed in 1804. It served in Spain, and was disbanded in 1814 by the French, along with the original 1st Infantry regiment, when Nassau switched sides. They were not reformed after 1814.

It might. Ive read articles from the gun-painters who advocate brighter hues for smaller figures.
I dont know if your a plastic man but HaT do a sensational set of 1815 Nassauers in 1/72.
