I just watched the first Dragonlance movie, and I was disappointed with it. The animation was very poorly done, and they way they showed the movie, they gave too much information up front. Part of the joy of the books was not knowing what was happening up front. Still, I could forgive that, but it was so hard to watch with the animation. They also cut out a pretty good amount of the story, but I guess that was inevitable. |

The part that was cut up the most was the part in Xak Tsaroth |

I didn't even make it to Xak Tsaroth! Yes, the movie was aweful. Should have put the budget that was in CGI into the traditional cel animation and get a better frame rate! Damon. |

I just watched it this weekend since I loved the books. The movie was bad. I made it through the whole thing but I think that was more because it was 2am and nothing else was on. |

Bad
inaccurate
shoddy animation
inconsistent animation
the list goes on. My wife rented it on netflix and I spent most of the movie explaining what was wrong, didn't happen in the book, and who certain characters were. I think I'd rather have been gargling with cleaning solvent. |

It was awful, just awful. |

I recall how happy Jracel was to give me his copy to watch :) |

There's a DragonLance movie? |

Of sorts, yes. It's quite bad. |

Then again, perhaps the next group will learn from the mistake of Dragonlance, and if they get around to making the fabled Drizz't Do'urden movie, it will suck less. |

No, there is not a DragonLance movie. Please avert your eyes and move along. |

I thought the animation was reminscent of the old 80's style in flavor and somewhat appropriate. Beyond that, I offer no excuses for the butchered story, horrible CGI dragons, and everything else that qualifiess the movie for the dollar bin at Walmart. I'm a huge DL fan and that movie practically hurt, though I did finish it. Joey |

A dollar would be overpriced for this dog. *chuckles* |

Yes I didn't find much in the movie to redeem it. On the other hand my 8 year old really enjoyed it. |

Once he reaches 9, he will realize that he is now too old for it. I can't recommend a single thing about it. I hope that someone decides to remake the movie. It could be good. Maybe not great, but good! |

I didn't even know it had come out already. You can usually gauge how bad a movie is going to be by the advertising budget. If they don't put any money in, even the producers think the movie stinks. |

Just watched the YouTube video trailer. I have to say, I like the old school animation. Reminds me of the old LotR movie animations. I did not like the CGI dragon. It looks well done enough but there was no need to make it CGI when you went for the old style animation for everything else. It looked out of place. The acting is just ok. Rastlin sounds look he is in good health
which is bad. All of the other characters seemed ok. Nothing outstanding. How close does it follow the story? |

Then again, perhaps the next group will learn from the mistake of Dragonlance, and if they get around to making the fabled Drizz't Do'urden movie, it will suck less. Like how they learned in the D&D 2 movie from the mistakes of D&D 1? |

I rented it despite several warnings. I wish I had heeded those warnings as I would've been spared the agony of watching what is admittedly not the smoothest story but one I have fond memories of from my youth getting butchered in my living room. I was surprised with the voice acting. Given some of the names I had higher hopes. I fear that if you want a good D&D movie you'll just have watch The Lord of the Rings again as anything directly associated with D&D is doomed to suck. |

South Park Heavy Metal homage had better animation. Should have gotten Kenny into the act on Dragonlance. |

For Acarhj (and anyone else who cares) It sort of followed the books, but only in the high level sense. It followed the major plot points, but told everything in a different frame than the books did. For instance, right off the bat it told the story of how the people turned from the Gods. It also told you that Fitzban was Paladine about halfway through the movie. They also showed the black dragon going Xak Tsaroth right at the beginning. They gave away a whole lot too early. The thing that was annoying was the fact that they dummied down so much of the plot (It was pretty simple as it was) like their main audience was kids. Nothing flowed very well. I almost turned it off at several points, but I just had to watch it because of how much I loved the books. |

I'll Netflix it at some point
maybe when I start a big painting project. Thanks for the info. |

"Like how they learned in the D&D 2 movie from the mistakes of D&D 1?" C'mon, D&D2 was way better than D&D1. Of course, that is more of a comment on the terrible D&D1. What these idiots don't get is that just because someone comes out and does LOTR and makes boatloads, that all of the tales of our youth should be made, at whatever low budget, thinking 'they'll make something for profit'. It is just unbelievable how bad this was. I balked at the promo! Punish them by never watching/renting/suffering through it! |

I like the part in D&D1 where the Wayan's brother dies
I think I cheered. |
