Since today is Cinco de Mayo, I've been reading up on this largely ignored part of history in North America (there was, of course, a much larger scale conflict going on further north).

Anyone ever game these? I think the Fields of Honor rules by Shane Hensley would work well, if I had orders of battle and miniatures.

I have used TSATF for this period and for really big battles any ACW rule set could be adapted. A fictional French vs. Union army battle on the Texas border would be interesting.

I've used Fields of Honor to game this conflict and I agree that the rules do work well. For miniatures, my collection contains a mixture of Foundry, Frontier, Houston's, and Dixon.

Fields of Honor is ok, we also used a variant of Fire and Fury for some of the larger battles

If you're interested in the OB's, you need go no farther than the Preziosi Collection at TVAG.

Andrew recently updated and expanded his entire series of OB's for all players (French, Imperial, and Juaristas) with new information and more details.

If interested in seeing what's available, you can visit link and follow the internal links to these (and other) OB's by starting at the "Preziosi Collection" on the left hand navigation bar on the Home Page.

I've been playing it for about ten years on and off using 'Principles of War'. It's a very colourful conflict.

Loads of people play this period -- there's a whole Yahoo group (not very active at present, I admit).

The problem is that war divides into quite distinct phases, which don't overlap that much in terms of how they are gamed: there's an initial period when the French were overwhelming in the field and the Mexicans were only prepared to face them in sieges. Then the campaign dissolved into small actions and ambushes around the margins. Finally the French withdrew and there were larger field battles again.

BTW I rearranged my site, so my list of actions is now to be found at:
