Looking for figures for an early pirates versus native versus colonists game set very near the early part of the pirate period. We are talking mid-1500's to around early 1600's at the latest.

I would be using Matchlocks on the Warpath (M. O. T. W.) rules so most players would have 3-6 figures each.

Being a novice to the pirate eras I have no idea what kind of figures would be available. Or what figures would be "too late" or "too early" in appearance. Is it a case of "Sailors are Sailors" in appearance during this period?

Any ideas?

Gracias,

Glenn

Foundry have a lot of figures that should suit you. Try the Sea Dogs and Eldorado Adventures ranges.

Thanks but Foundry are off limits due to cost. $56 USD for 6 is simply unacceptable. Like GW I just don't buy certain manufacturers intentionally.

$56 USD for 6???

I don't think so. Where are you looking?

UNIT price 3 identical packs
($56.00)

Ah ha! I misread the page (I was tired, more so then I thought apparently.)

PACK price
($21.00)

Okay, more like $3.50 USD each. Merely uncomfortably high. <well, for me – remember I automatically think in terms of 6mm infantry, 1/600th airplanes, and 1/6000th ship prices!> Fortunately, a pack would work for 1-2 players.

These are 28mm I believe (hmm, new scale syndrome) but since I sold off all my old 25mm figures 1-2 years ago I probably could rebuild in this scale with Conquest Indians, etc., since I don't have any figures to suffer from inferior size comparison comments from anal-retentive types. Painting would be an issue for me but that just my limitation to overcome somehow.

Thanks for suggesting I revisit the site.

The El Dorado Adventurers look especially good for my purposes.

Glenn,

Packs of both the Sea Dogs and El Dorado figures come up on ebay pretty often. I've built up quite a pile of them for cheap that way.

The Sea Dogs are a bit heftier (done by Mike Owens, now owner of Artizan Designs). The El Dorado conquistadores are some of my personal favorites though (done by Mark Copplestone, now owner of Copplestone Castings).

Great deals to be had without having to buy direct. Just keep your eyes open for deals on ebay. However, if you are truly in quick need of a big bunch of the figures, you could always get them as a Foundry hordes deal:

The two El Dorado hordes I bought (one for me and one for my nephew) contained just about all of the packs in the collection.

Hope this helps.
