G'day Dal, Well done mon gar, nice uniforms and nice standards, although I believe a more 'period' feel would result from the use of Roman rather than Arabic numerals on the standards, guidons, etc. Just a thought. Regards, B |

G'day. Brythlem, bloody good idea, mate! I'll fix that up shortly. Chris, I'm at Tallong, so you're only just over the highway from me. There's a good group in Goulburn, too, with Matt, Greg, Boyd and the others running a good club. I'd go in more often, but I travel a lot and like to spend weekends at home. Let me know when you move up, mate, you can come out for a feed and game/fire musket/chat. Cheers. Dal. |

OK, I would change the name of the nation: Neues Südland or Neusüdland (ü could be substituted with ue) Sud in German exists, too, it means decoction or brew :-)) Ulenspiegel

G'day, Ulenspegel. The seven-pointed star, galah and southern cross will mean most Anglophones think "Neue Sudland" means "New South Land"- ie Australia. Those that speak a little German will hopefully get the pun about brewing, given the popularity of beer in Australia. That's why there's no umlaut over the "u". Though I did leave the "s" off neues, showing that my German is rustier than I thought. I'll just blame the government of Neue Sudland for being incompetent and illiterate. Cheers. Dal. |

Black uniforms for dragoons? I love it! The world needs more black uniforms – hurrah the 5th! |

Great to read from Neue Sudland anew! Unable to utter disparaging remarks even if I'd want to: the uniforms are pleasant and original yet likely, perfectly credible and 'incharacter'; the diversity of flag patterns according to the troop type is a fine note. In the 'Emperor vs Elector' Europe we have Frankfurter and Beerstein (and of course the Electorate of Hangover), so I enjoy to discover a pun in Neue Sudland! Is your German-speaking "New South Land" in Europe, or somewhere in the Pacific Ocean (I'm collecting info. about 18th C. fictitious oversea settlement as eagerly as about fictitious Lace Wars uniforms)? Looking forward for the other Arms of Service – Freie Korps and militia are special opportunities to let your 'creativity' go wild. Cheers, Jean-Louis aka Louys de Monte-Cristo link |

G'day. Frederick, I'm happy with the way it turned out. I was stuck on the uniform when I thought of the Prussian 5th hussars. Originally the facings were yellow, but that looked too bright. A mention of the Brunswick Uhlans of 1815 gave me the idea for this uniform. Agreed, more black troops may be fun. Wait until you see the Milita regiments
.. Jean-Louis, RNS is on the Indian ocean, in the NW corner of New Holland (on a map of Australia, from about Broome around to the Kakadu- see the map I'll put on the site), with enclaves in the east (SE NSW). Settled originally by the Dutch it has since been traded between "great powers", before the people got sick of being pawns and broke away from their colonial masters. So the influences are German, British and Russian, with the language spoken being a mix of English, German and various Asian languages, due to the mix of people living there. As I see it, RNS is basically a mercenary-for-hire nation, too far from Europe to get involved directly but making money by hiring out the regiments. Unless some other nation is established here, of course, when all sorts of campaigns are possible. Cheers. Dal. |

Dal, the Republic of Neue Sudland, its nature, geography, army, flags and uniforms
deserve to be better known: did you take the opportunity of this (warmly welcome) update to post on the OSW group where, I believe, appeared the 1st mention of your Imagi-Nation? Cheers, Jean-Louis |

>b>Dal, two points: - native troops? For cultural reasons, and from historical precedents, I don't feel 'native' units likely in Neue Sudland. But what about half-breeds (more probably descendants of Russian fathers) along the lines of the Topas in India: link Maybe some of the imigrant families were half-breeds between Russians and peoples encountered during the Southwards progression: Coreans, Philippines, Indonesians
- Fictitious (wargame) campaigns in the Indian Ocean: even if you are deprived of any 'local' opponent with a 'relevant' country / army, 'battles by proxy' (as practiced between members of the 'Emperor vs Elector' campaign blog) allow you to 'fight' another player located on the other side of the real world: TMP link Now, a member of 'EvE' just obtained a colony in the Indian Ocean: link

Half-breeds in Neue Sudland Or / and Portuguese – Indonesian half-breeds from Timor 'imported' as middle-level manpower? (as for slaves, if any, I guess they would be 'locally' recruited). |
