Where there any lancer regiments on either side? and if so where can I find some information.

I think I can use the standard from the perry set and have a regiment of 12 Lancers.

I am nearly finished my first regiment of 36 Union, although I can't base them until Litko sends my order over.

Sixth Pennsylvania Cavalry, also known as Rush's Lancers. Eric Wittenberg republished in 1996 the regiment history written by its chaplain, S. L. Gracey. Eric's words from his introduction of the reprint "Finally, on May 26, 1863, the Lancers traded in their useless lances for Sharps carbines . . .".

The Sixth Pennsylvania Cavalry "Rush's Lancers" are the only regiment I've ever heard of using there lance's, but I could be wrong. If you go to rushslancers.com it has some history about them.

I'm just finishing my first regiment of 34 Union fellas, and had the same idea for the cavalry too. Great minds. :)

6th Pennsylvania (Rush's Lancers. Later rearmed with standard pistols and carbines. Some companies of Texas cavalry on the Sibley Expedition to New Mexico. They got guns ASAP after a bloody charge at the first battle.

I seem to remember reading about some of the smaller battles in Texas and there being a charge by Confererate Lancers at one of them. I don't the books with me but I am sure there are some Civil War experts out there who will chip in soon.

It was B Company, 5th Texas Mounted Volunteers at the Battle of Valverde. They were slaughtered.

That's interesting – Californios with lances gave Hearney's sword and pistol armed dragoons a bloody nose back in the Mexican War. I wonder was it the weapons or the lack of confidence in those weapons that made lances so useless during the ACW. Or did Hearney's men have single shot pistols?

I recall reading an article in Civil War Times Illustrated years ago that mentioned there were actually quite a few lance armed cavalry units right at the start of the war. It was a fad like zouave uniforms and other outlandish garb. Most of them quickly got rid of the lances for something more practical.
