Yesterday, I ran a game at Recon 2008 called "Saturday Morning Matinee." The intention was to have a series of short adventure games recreating the early adventure serials. My able assistant, Chip, and I used the various flavors of .45 Adventures. We intended to run a pirate adventure (The Curse of the Cursed Gold – Chapter 1 The Dead Man's Hand), a Sci-Fi adventure (Raygun Rayborn and the Spice Mines) and a Gangster Game. Due to time constraints the Gangster game was kept in the box. We also wanted to showcase the flexability of the .45 Adventures Game Engine, that the same rules concepts could be used in vastly different settings.

We set the game up for 6 players and intended to play the pirates game and then switch and play the Raygun game. When we set up, we found we had 12 interested parties, so we split up and I ran the two Raygun games, while Chip handled the Pirates. Unfortunately, I later realized that I *still* have not been able to play with my pirates.

Anyways, here are some pictures if anyone is interested:

Highlight of the Raygun games was Gleep, the Space Monkey keeping most of the evil Khang soldiers busy with his "primate grenadier" ability. I will leave it as an exercise for the reader to figure out what his "grenades" were. Throughout both games, despite many attempts, Gleep emerged unscathed.

I got Poo'ed. . .Twice. It was not a nice experience. Then I got hit with a blast of heat ray and the poo got baked on.

Not only did I get Poo'ed, but one my guys fell into a bottomless pit. Then another was cold-cocked right out of the game when attempting to take out Dale.

It was a great game (I was the guy wearing the Ironman shirt) and I had great time playing the Raygun scenario. My compliments on the board which was very nice. I will be looking forward to the game next year. By then I should be much better at it since I will be purchasing the Future Worlds supplement.

Again my compliments to the games host

The train on the Elevated Tracks in the pictures.
In Chicago they call it the EL or L train.
Who makes it?
Thanks,Clif

The "Spice Mines" terrain board, I have a feeling, will be copied and serve as inspiration to more than a few TMP'ers.

Is the Mummy board Hirst Arts bricks?

alex75705 May 2008 9:08 a.m. PST

sorry Clif,

Oh, I got it now. That is in the zombie Game folder. I wasn't putting two and two together.

The train is a paper model available from worldworks games. It is a kitbash to make a slightly larger model.

And yes, most of the mummy board was made from Hirst Arts bricks. Very flexible way of making terrain, but it takes quite a while to get all of them cast.

The Spice Mines board was also made of from Hirst Art molds It was great to play on. Not to mention the minis were great to play with.

Very, very nice! Thanks for sharing, I may have to get .45 adventure, been trying to steer clear of pulp, but I feel a tug on my wallet.

You know you want to play pulp. All the cool kids are. C'mon, the first game is free. :-)

Be sure to check out the free downloads before you spend your hard earned cash. No use buying a game you won't like.

In the Spice mines pictures, is that a V.I.N.cent robot from Disney's The Black Hole?

How and where did you acquire that?

Warrenss206 May 2008 5:21 p.m. PST

Jim,

Both of those boards were fantastic but my favorite was the "Spice Mines" terrain board! I going to have to get those molds and make one myself.

If it wasn't for the fact that I had to leave to prepare for my Monster Island game I would have watched the entire game(s).

Where did you get the little crystels and the little guys from Toy Story?

What was the little monkey's stats?

alex75707 May 2008 9:42 a.m. PST

VINCENT (or in my game M.A.X, I don't want to be accused of IP theft) was a scratchbuild. He is made from a wooden ball, a piece of styrene tubing, an upholstery pin and some dressmakers pins.

The Toy story aliens are from eBay. Just do a search for Toy Story Alien and you should find the guy in Hong Kong that sells them in bulk.

The crystals are from Hirst Arts Mold #85 cast with clear resin from Michaels (using their 50% off coupons).

The monkey stats were taken directly from the Under the Black Flag (pirates) rules from Rattrap Productions.
