I have not bought any of the new Perry plastics, but I will eventually. I am impressed by what I see. There is one thing I have not heard much about. Has anybody done any conversions of the figures? Changed arm or leg positions or reformed some figures by melting? I know that is one of the things that I will be doing, since it is so much easier converting and altering plastic! Brilliant marketing move by the Perry's and beautiful figures too! I hope that other manufacturers may do the same, but if not, I will be able to get any figure I need from the Perry's by conversion. Has anyone else done any conversions of these figures? |

Have a look at this month's issue of Wargames Illustrated : the Perry twins penned an article on how to convert their plastic figures. It's comprehensively illustrated, with examples of how Aly Morrison and co. turned ACW figures into mid C-19th British or Austrian infantry. |

Only minor stuff so far, like shell jackets to sack coats, adding "mutton chop" whiskers, and bushier beards for that stylish "ZZ Top/Hairy Biker" look, and the odd wooden canteen for the CSA. Having the two plastic sets now makes for more possibilities; a spare drummer's arm with the sticks removed, a kepi put between the fingers, and the arm cut and Greenstuffed into an outstretched sideways position made a unique bareheaded cavalry officer. I would NEVER have the guts to convert a plastic figures by partial melting! Good luck to anyone who can! |

Quinteus, that's interesting! More brilliant marketing by them! Footslogger, you're right about the melting of plastic. That's tricky business and you better know what you're doing or you'll end up with a deformed figure. I was just thinking about conversions. The Perry's could make it easier for us all by making conversion packs with different arms, heads, unusual hats, accoutrements and weapons. How about a whole unit of men carrying 1842 Smoothbores? Or how about Mississippi Rifles. The Austrian Lorenz? Okay, I realize I'm getting too particular about some things that most people don't care about or know the difference! Sorry, I'm a dreamer! |

Quintus, apologies for the mispelling! |

Fire Zouave. How about a whole box of different rifles and carbines? Even revolvers. |

Shotguns too. Their cavalry are useless to me without them. |

Yes, andysyk and Teutonic Texan. Exactly what I was thinking. How hard would that be for them to do that? I bet they would sell a lot of boxes of different weapons, as well as other accoutrements! |

I'm building the II U.S. Army Corps – 2nd Division as the basis for my US army. The plastic is very easy to work and with some greenstuff the options are endless. Some of the skirmisher make great standard bearers. |
