During the WSS, there were two companies ("Grey" and "Black") of Guard Musketeers. On the website "Les Armées françaises de la guerre de succession d'Espagne: 1701 à 1714", they list the first company as the "Greys" (silver lace) and the second as the "Blacks" (gold lace). But this seems to contradict Mouillard's prints which shows the gold laced unit as the first company.

Did they really exchange seniority between the WSS and WAS (and their standards as well) or is one of these references (links below) wrong?

I'm thinking the former link is wrong but maybe they did switch seniority and standards between the wars…???

Anyone?

Thanks!

According to Robert Hall's exhaustove work "Standards and Uniforms of the French Cavalry Under Louis XIV," The gris were the first company and had gold lace and the stadard with the mortar attackig the city

Then this site ( link ) has the pictures reversed.

Appreciate your solving that one.

Also, please note that during the WSS, the officers did not wear the soubreveste. Their coats would be similar to those of the officers of the gendarmes and chevauxleger du roi.
