Besides the buildings (which is on my list) what should I be looking for next?

I want to build a small "South of the Border" town with Mexicans and Anglos for games and currently I have:

Lots of desert and badlands terrain. Weak on hills…

3 Artisan Banditos (I was surprised as they were artisan as I bought them because they were discounted 50%)

3 Artisan Frontier Characters (ditto above)

6 "unknown" armed characters (5 male – 2 rifle, 2 pistol and sword, 1 derringer; 1 female – carbine) – Dixonesque looking

18 Anglo "townies" *(1 armed – female – pistol) including 1 clearly 'soiled dove' and another possibly of that nature (but higher class) Dixon and "unknown" looking figures. Includes 2 preachers and at least one "church lady" to stir up the locals in religious/temperance disputes.

2 foundry Pith helmet and armed women and another Dixon-esque female armed with a pistol

On Order:

MondayKnight's Los Pistoleros amongst other stuff (senior moment as to specifics…)

Old Glory – 1 Vaquero set, 1 Bandito set and 1 Women of the West set

So, in order of importance, after bulidings, what are the things I should be looking at next?

Campesinos/peons?

Priests/Nuns?

Window/street dressing?

More natural terrain?

Horses?

Mounted figures (same or "close enough") for the foot figures I have?

Other suggestions?

Gracias,

Glenn

Some ox carts, a priest, a herd of cattle, some Commanches or Apaches. Definitely some Txas Rangers – West Wind/Old Glory has some.

Cactus, hitching posts, outhouses a Spanish church. You should know that those Monday Knight figs are gonna look like kids next to your other figs. You'll probably need to slap some extra stuff on the base to add to their height.

I bought a cotton fabric from Joann's for my base cloth. I then took it outside and sprayed it about 4 different shades in various spots throughout. In use I add Kitty litter and this sorta dried moss from Michael's too my towns. Along with the birthday cake cactuses. Looks quite nice (I have receieved a lot of compliments since my games are almost always set down south along the Mexican border.

Thanks,

John

Instead of a Boy Band would it be a Band of Boy Banditos?

Go, Horse, GO!

Sigh, you need what no one makes…. a mariachi band!

You may want to rustle up an ERTL Cowtown. It comes with longhorns, horses, a windmill, some buildings, etc. that make nice scenery.

A stagecoah and buckboard..?

A choo-choo train..?
(Heck, pard.. need *somethin* ta rob..!)

Lostpict beat me to it, but the Ertl Cowtown is excellent..

Oh.. Zombie Cowboys (Foundry) and/or some dinosaurs..
(as in the movie Valley of the Gwangi).

A zombie dinosaur would be sorta silly tho..:-)

ElaineP,

Pontoonier Miniatures make a Mariachi Band in 28mm. They are very nice! I picked up a pack at Little Wars a couple of weeks ago.

I don't see the band listed on their website, but they make one. You might want to shoot them an email.

My thought for a gang name:

Niños de Muerte.

No zombie cowboys on zombie dinosaurs?

A mariachi band would suggest fiesta and/or wedding setting.

Okay, this is now officially out of control!

Aiiiieeeeeee!

Gracias,

Glenn

Yes…you need all of that and more…

1: You need to purchase a dozen copies of Gutshot. They make great gifts for birthdays, anniversaries, gamers divorce parties, bar-mitszvahs, etc…

2: You need at least 10-20 different buildings from Arnica Monatana…I suggest that you wait approx 2 months for this transaction, and then you can get ALLLLLLL you want.

3: More figs…you can never have enough.

5: Wander down to Wally World and buy a set of John Wayne Movies…that'll give you inspiration for more.

I hope that you have a Mexican church on your list. And seven gunfighters to defend your peons.

Murph,

The Old Glory Wild West Birthday special is hurting my Arnica Montana building budget… Ya'll best git a movin on them buildings!

Or more accurately, by the time my wallet recovers from the Old Glory sale, you'll release the buildings and cause my town to grow!

I will have to settle for two copies. This is my 'change of pace from blowing flying things up and destroying "targets" (anything not flying)' normal…

"…You need at least 10-20 different buildings from Arnica Monatana…I suggest that you wait approx 2 months for this transaction, and then you can get ALLLLLLL you want…"

LOL, I have decided that Whitewash City is the route I'll start because I originally got out of 25/28mm because of terrain space issues and cost.

"…More figs…you can never have enough…"

You haven't seen my 1/600th aircraft collection – And, yes, I do think I'll get more.

"…Wander down to Wally World and buy a set of John Wayne Movies…that'll give you inspiration for more…"

Um, started that in VHS and DVDs came along. Starting over with that in that format. As a result, my oldest daughter loves the old black and white shows/movies and {Warning – Political statement follws} I may have trained someone to be more offensive to Liberals, One Worlders, and Commie/Socialists then I am!

Another good addition for your town would be Knuckleduster's Sharp Dressed Band" link
I think these Texas boys might play an occasional gig south of the border. ;)

altfritz05 May 2008 4:25 p.m. PST

Do you have the Old Glory giveaway comboys? (I assume you are an Old Glory army member as you've ordered some packs. But how many of the cowboys you have depends upon when you joined. They have a very nice "Cigar-store Indian" – I think it's called – that could dress up your buildings when you get them.
