Anybody here like Out of the Silent Planet? Sorns, Hross, Pfiffltriggi (probably mispelled that one, it's been years), and, of course, Eldils.

While I don't think I'd try to exactly game Lewis' universe, I do like the idea that the evil, rebel Eldils are here on Earth, which ends up by being the most screwed up place in creation. Very different take from the typical VSF fare.

I thought it was the weakest of the space trilogy, and fortunately read THAT HIDEOUS STRENGTH first. But I suppose CSL's Mars, or the Venus of the floating islands, would indeed be an interesting place to set a game.

I tried to get through that and never made it through the first book. I tried and tried and tried. It was so boring I put it down halfway through. It is probably less than 200 pages.

The second one is better, and the last one is excellent, imho.

@Pictors Studio

I'm surprised at that. The first book is a little slow, kinda like a Tolkien wilderness description, but it is a good read, nonetheless, and I ended up enjoying it.

PS I'll agree that Hideous Strength is the best of the three, though its plot is very different.

I read thetrilogy as part of a Science Fiction as Literature course in college.
WARNING: Never take a "Science Fiction as Literature" course in college. The professor will invariably select the most boring crap he can dfind, and force you to analyze the bejabbers out of it.

I guess my feelings on CS Lewis' science fiction have shown through. The only thing I can remember is the Devil snapping the spinal columns of frogs with his fingernails, and the Hero causing them even more suffering as he tried to "put them out of their missery" by stomping on them. What fun!
