Dear all,

I have just started my new project of Perry ACW. I am loking for tips on how to paint them quickly and at the same time nicely.

From my first tests, I am going to do the folowing technique as it appears to be both quick and nice.

1. Spray undercoat GW Chaos Black.
2. Block in colours with a bright shade
3. Wash over with a dark shade using a simple wash of 20% paint and 80% water

These are the first version of colour recipes..

Union
Jackets and Caps in Dark Prussian Blue 70.899 washed with black.

Trousers in Pastel Blue 70.901 washed with Oxford Blue 70.897

Confederate
Here I see a variety of colours for jackets and trousers.
Most will be light Grey 70.990 washed with a dark grey (e.g. German grey 70.995)
Some will be Neutral Grey 70.992 washed with German grey 70.995
For light brown and tan variants, I will experiment. So far, Iraqi Sand 70.819 washed with 70.874 US Tan Earth looks a good option. I plan variants including German Camo Beige 70.821 washed with English Uniform 70.921

Please add your comments and suggestions.
Thanks
Mick

You've made some simple and light fun sound like an engineering and logistical nightmare.

Sorry for that

I'm only messing with you, Mick. Don't forget to have some fun while you're at it. Cheers.

Thanks. I've been moving more and more towards washes as my latest evolution.

Sounds pretty good – you may want to give the CS gray more of a brownish tone. German Cammo beige with a GW brown ink wash would work very nicely. I've used that for Soviet Winter War greatcoats with brilliant effect (as they were gray-ish brown and NOT the darker brown of WWII fame).

I'll have to try that, sounds good.

Dear S Dallimore

Thank-you for the tip – I will try that.

Also Vallejo German Cammo Orange Ochre is a good tan for CS uniforms as well.
