Could not let this slip by:

At the village of Camerone in Mexico, a company of the Foreign Legion was attacked by a Mexican force of approximately 2000. The French hold out in the village for 11 hours, at the end the five survivors, out of ammunition, fix bayonets and charge the surrounding force. This is the text of the monument at the site of the action at Camerone.

Each year on the 30th April every unit of the French Foreign Legion celebrates the anniversary of Camerone. At Aubagne, the Legion headquarters, the false wooden hand of Captaine Danjou, which was recovered from the battleground, is parade in a grand ceremony

The Legion has always had some tough troopers.

That should be "LEFT THESE FRENCH SOLDIERS"

Being Legionnaires, a huge number of them weren't French.

While unfeasibly brave in reality, the action at the Camaron Hacienda gets a completely unnecessary extension of the Legion's valour. They did not hold out for 11 hours from 2,000 men. That time counts from first contact, which was light at first. Then the Legionnaires fought off some Mexican cavalry (maybe 600). Only much later did the apparently 1,200 strong Mexican infantry arrive. (I suspect the numbers are a bit high too). There was also a long pause while fire was attempted.

The top one is composed of Pegaso 54mm figures, while the bottom diorama was made with Freikorps 15 figures.

Vive la Légion!

"These are not men, but demons!"

"Charge your rifles. You will fire on command. Then we will charge with the bayonet. You will follow me."

"Pero, no son hombres, son demonios!" -- if I remember my poor espagnol correctly. Honor to le capitaine Danjou and his men!
