Did howitzers have cannister?

Yes they did. They didn't use roundshot and it would have been a damn good(brave?,foolish?)gunner who set a shell fuse for close range!!

Howitzers were often considered better for cannister than guns, since they tended to have larger bores.

Also, I believe Russian Licorns (Unicorns) were a sort of early gun/howitzer that could fire ball, but not as far or with as much velocity as a gun.

That's because the licorne, as well as the "secret" Shuvalov howitzer, had a reduced chamber in which the powder was placed. This resulted in a smaller propellant charge than a gun of similar size.

from what I believe a cannon has a shot gun effect with cannister while Howitzers are like scatter-guns…correct me if wrong.
