Hello everyone, I am collecting the AWI period and in particular the Trident designs figures which have caught my fancy, can anyone tell me about good books which highlight skirmish actions that took place in that period and as importamntly a good rule set that can be adapted or already is designed for 40mm? I understand that There is Brother Agaisnt brother and Minutemen, also WRG Fire and Steel. Are there any others? I am looking to filed upto initially a maximum of 40 – 50 figures per side and as low as 10 a side. What will work? I look forward to your replies. Kind regards, Robert |

This Very Ground from Iron Ivan is designed for just that number of figures. They are fun rules, working on small units of individual figures. Black Powder Battles (or the free Mayhem:Muskets&Mohawks) from Two Hour Wargames also provide good games for the period, at least they do if you like the reaction system. I am very fond of the Trident figures myself. I have also considered adapting "Patriots!" from The Perfect Captain. These are a set of small unit actions rules written for 15mm. I am undecided as yet between using single 40mm figures instead of 15m bases of 3, or using 3 40mm on a base and scaling everything up. |

I've used Black Powder Battles by Two Hour Wargames, and found it worked pretty well for small actions. |

Sharp Practice from TwoFatLardies has also been used with great effect in this period in its playtests, and it is currently almost ready for release. |

Fire and Steel is good if you have more than two players, and want them to each represent a "faction" of 6-10 figures. I have done scenarios for the FIW with 10 different factions, each with different objectives. For games with 120 figures oper side, I have used vanilla The Sword and the Flame, with the British using British tables, continentals using Egyptian, militia using Boer, etc. For very small actions, 4 figures opper person, Gloire is very good. I am planning on ding Lexington concord, and think that "Habitants and Highlanders" will work very well. The supplement "The Whites of their eyes" has a H&H scenario. I also just picked up "This Very Ground", and it looks like it will work very well, too. Sharpe Practice intrigues me, and I will probably get it when it comes out. |

I just ordered Sharpe Practice based on some of the AAR reports here on TMP. It sounds like a fun system for smaller forces. |

Sharp Practice is available for pre-release sales now. We are launching the rules at the Essex Eagle Militaire, part of the International Napoleonic Fair, on the 12th of May. At present we have a limited edition figure set available for purchasers until they run out. You can get details from toofatlardies.co.uk |
