Having failed all major painting projects I need to get some smaller skirmish project going. Can anyone recommend a good generic skirmish scenario for 20-40 figures that would be applicable from 13th-16th century? I desperately need some inspiration….

All help much appreciated!

Howabout:
The youngest unlanded son of a noble heads off with some retainers and levies to seek glory against the enemy with a marshalling army. Enroute they run into an enemy advanced party, or perhaps some scouts. Or, better yet, a lightly protected baggage train or supply convoy.

Or, there's always:
A local lord takes exception to a clergyman using his position to force himself his daughter, and heads out armed to the teeth to do a little "forcing" homself. A group of Crusdaers or Travelling Sell-Swords get wind of teh confrontation and decide to come to the aid of the church.

Watch "The Last Valley". It will definitely inspire you.

Have a look at the GW Warhammer Skirmish webpages, they have a whole list of skirmish scenarios. Whilst written for Warhammer, they can be used for pretty much any period. Just try substituting different troop types for the creatures they suggest, and off you go.

Oooh! That's a great starting point to get some ideas from, Khazarmac, and some of them are perfect for HYW-type chevauchée raids. The more ammunition I can get to switch my club to historical the better, and some quick fun skirmish scenarios will be perfect.

Mister Rab, you can use the Warhammer skirmish scenarios for almost any period. In fact, in WWII, using a tank or other armoured vehicle to replace a large magical creature works rather well!
