Hi folks, Who makes 28mm naval crews suitable for Victorian era colonial or VSF gunboats? I'm thinking of crew that look like they're actually manning the vessel rather than boarding parties or armed sailors operating as soldiers. Cheers, Trev |

Reviresco make a variety of generic sailors & gun crews, as well as some 'local color' such as 'Laptots' – African native crewmen. Their ship details such as anchors, winches & ventilators are very nice too. Eureka make some gun crew for their guns that you can order separately if you ask nicely. |

Old Glory in their Boxer rebellion range have a pack of European sailors designed for manning guns. They would pass for deck hands, one is pointing, one is kneeling etc. The only snag is you get Russian ones, French ones, Austrian ones etc, so several nationalities are covered. Redoubt do some Crew for their ACW monitors that are wearing naval dress. Howver they may not look European enough for you. |

Foundry has some in the Crimean War range, depending on how early you are going. Also the Perry's make marines in their Sudan range but they are more the armed types you don't want. |

Both Redoubt and Eureka have VSF specific crews available, but they may be difficult to discover on the respective websites. I have 'em both, big 28mms, and nicely sculpted, interesting poses. |

Brigade Games also has a range as well (I think). |

RAFM does some US Cival war sailors that work ok. 3 poses and open hands |

Can't believe someone didn't already mention the bargain figures from The London War Room. Very large 25's, if not 28mm, their is a large number of gun and deck crews, including fire fighting parties (buckets, axes, and hoses), and just the ticket for Victorian, not later, usage. Sculpted by Chris Ferree originally for Richard Houston's line of naval guns and ships fittings, they are very inexpensive and paint up quickly and easily. Go to TLWR and check them out under "Houston's Ships" and related pages. TVAG |

Thanks all, that's given me lots to look at. I was a bit surprised Mark Copplestone hadn't done any, either for Foundry or himself. Askari, what I was looking for was naval crew actually doing naval stuff instead of shooting or advancing with rifles. Officers issuing orders or supervising, a crewman steering the ship, crewmen manning deck guns, crewmen with telescopes or just covered eyes on watch, crewmen carrying stuff, scrubbing the decks etc. Just normal shipboard things really. Some dead or wounded crew figures might be useful too. I'm thinking I could make the deck guns detachable and have destroyed versions to replace them with if they get knocked out. Cheers, Trev |

Dear Trev, Really sounds like you will want to look at the figures at The London War Room--they're just what you describe. The gun crews even have a wide variety of figures carrying shells of varrying sizes for the different weapons. And don't forget the widest range of naval weapons on the proper mounts are available as part of the same range. TVAG |
