Several people have mentioned there is a Franco Prussian variant of the popular rules Shako, is this the case and if so where can I find them.

Thanks,

Geoff

I uploaded them to the Shako Yahoo group.

Thanks,

John

If you like Shako be sure to check out "1870." It is a dedicated rule set and uses – like Shako – an orders system and fairly straight forward fire combat system. The rules are worth it just for the included scenarios, OOBs and background information.

Hey Mark, 1870 is just too fiddily for me. Shako is more streamlined.

Thanks,

John

John can you let me know the size of Prussian and French Battalions ie number of stands you show an arrangement for the Prussians that would indicate 8-9 is this correct. I am looking at using these rules for Russo Turkish war in 28mm scale.

Thanks,

Geoff

Hi. I didn't create the document. I merely had saved it when the original disappeared. The diagram shows 6 stand French and 9 stand Prussians. I have a pdf if you need it.

Thanks,

John

John,

As fsr as you are aware are the distances 25/28mm or 15mm? Do we assume cavalry is still the notional 2 stands.

Any idea what would comprise a pick up army for each side?

I thought for 15mm. I would say probably yes to the 2 stand. Not sure about complete armies, sorry.

Thanks,

John

Thanks John,

The playsheet you posted (I accept you are not responsible) is frustratingly elusive.

The other thought going through my mind is dealing with skirmishers.

If the Prussian/French Units are 9/6 bases long then presumably units in skirmish formation would be Shako skirmisher bases 3/2 long and by the time of the FPW would the ability to move into and out of skirmish formation be more flexible that Shako allows for Napoleonic?

It strikes me there is a missing link, an ACW Shako.

Or why don't I just look at "1870" or tweak the Polemos sets?

"1870" just arrived. Certainly looks a well researched reference sources as well as a rule book.
