A couple years ago I made the jump into 25/28mm figures just to try something new. I decided to do three basic armies to cover campaigns in the "Crusades" era (11th-13th century) – Frankish/Norman Crusaders, Muslims, and Byzantines. I purchased the figures to do these three armies and set out to paint the Muslims first, then the Byzantines, and finally the Franks figuring they would be the easiest to paint. The plan worked great until the Byzantines. I kept adding this unit and then that unit, Vardariots, Turcopoles, Varagians, Skythikon, etc and then I decided to do different eras. I mean you gotta love those Kataphraktos right? Pretty soon my Comnenan Byzantines had become several different era armies. Then I saw a late Byzantine unit on line and had to have it. Then I saw some magnificent Crusader Byzantines and had to have them too. Now I have three massive armies in 25/28mm in various stages of completion. WHAT IS MY PROBLEM??? WHERE IS THE SELF CONTROL??? And now, Musketeer Miniatures is coming out with new Ghulams! Nooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo! Is there a "Collectors Anonymous" group out there? |

It's here. And no, they won't help. They're all a bunch of enablers. Regards, the Gorb |

Wargamers don't need self control when it comes to buying new figures
when you stop doing it you're dead; everyone knows that! ;-) |

When you say Muslims who do you mean? Seljuks? Mamluk? Fatimids? Ayyubids? If you think your Byzantine is multiple era imagine what you could do with the near east army. |

I have the same problem with medievals, but it has progressed into something worse. After doing both sides for several eras, I decided to do both sides in multiple scales, just adding to the depth of my stupidity. So you still have that to look forward to. |

Hi My closest gaming friend is a norman freek and complained that my interests were elsewhere. Like Romans. For me, it seemed obvious that I would do byzantines. But it got out of control as well. Why NOT. So, I have 4thc, 6thc, dark ages, crusader period and fall of "new Rome". Why not? They are so interesting to paint. Even better, under our system, they are very expensive in points. So, when I was travelling, I could put more POINTS in a briefcase than any other army, meaning gaming with others, no matter what point level they set
I had ENOUGH! Grin. Rocky |

When I said Muslims I meant to have a Fatimid Army to tangle with the Byzantines and Crusader states. Well, then I saw the Perry Miniatures Seljuks and had to get them. So I went for a Seljuk Turk Muslim option. As of right now I could field basically any Muslim army from the Abbasids through to the Khwarizmians. Of course, I will have to see some of the new Musketeer Ghulams too. It never ends. I can see a Mongol horde on the horizon

Multiple scales for the same army is normal, no problems there. Likewise, armies spreading out like that is just a variation on scale creep (army creep?), so again normal. Don't see any problems here. |

Heck, you've not sunk to the depths of insanity yet! My dad has eastern armies from the Parthians up through the Ottomans – literally more than a thousands of figures all for the same area for opponents from Macedonia through WWI. You have just three armies to worry about – be brave and face the fact you will not finish any of them, but will continue to add a unit here or there until death do you part. |

Dude, really it's just you. I still game with the same Airfix 20mm plastics lovingly converted with plasticene and banana oil that I used in my youth. At least I think they're the same, they've been converted and re-converted so many times I can't tell. OK, I give. I too have the same army in diffrent scales, buy new units just because they look interesting, have a massive pile of unpainted lead, and all the rest. |

No its not just you. I've yet to meet another wargamer who didn't at some stage suffer from a bad case of C.A.I.E.S. for which there is no known cure but many a figure manufacturer has grown rich on the drug for the symptoms. (C.A.I.E.S? Core Army Incremental Expansion Syndrome) |

Hi I wasn't really interested in medievals. I had lots of friends with them, and the drill wasn't interesting. I grew up in a military family which constant discussions on training and drill at family gatherings. thus, medievals weren't interesting, and i could always borrow. But from time to time, somone would do a lovely figure that I HAD to paint. I would say "well a unit". One day I found my self in a big club battle where my side was losing, and I had a couple dozen units in a big square trying to ease off the table. All on a big tray. The table SHOOK when I moved them. The guys named them "the rumblers". And I suddenly realized I had a massive 3000 points of medievals JUST in infantry, not couting the cav. I never MENT to have a medieval army. Yup, it is terrible. Rocky |

I must be simultaneously working on around 20 28mm armies. In all honesty, I cannot recommend such an unfocussed approach. My problem is usually caused when I buy a cheap unit on eBay, and then buy a few figures to increase the unit size slightly, then decide to expand it to a wing and finally end up with 300 painted figures and a couple of hundred more in my unpainted Wall of Lead. I Cannot Resist a Bargain! ;-) Simon |

I'm I the only one that can't see what the problem is? :) |
