I have a bunch of plastic SW figures but dislike the black bases. I was thinking of rebasing them on fender washers. Has anyone else done this? They look like they might be difficult to take off their plastic bases. Anyone try scenicing the plastic bases? Any tips are appreciated.

I tried it, no matter how careful I was I still ended loosing enough off the bottom of the feet to give up.

I recently got a bunch from the hoth set. I am in the process of adding snow to the bases. I am using the snow paste that you get in craft and ceramic stores and it works fine. I cant remember for sure but i think its made by Duncan. i use the same stuff to texture bases on my metal figures, which i paint with acrylics. Again this works great. Just flock after it dries and seal. I haven't had any flaking or chipping so far.

Cheers

I don't rebase them. Frankly, I have over a 1000 of them so it would be fairly expensive and time consuming to do so. I may end up flocking some of the bases as George mentions.

Thanks,

John

I don't rebase or even flock / dress up the black bases. Too much of a hassle. Frankly I just want to play with them. I actually find the black bases to be "scenery neutral" and better than putting outdoor dirt & grass bases on stormtroopers, then using them inside a space station (or vice versa). I might consider painting the Hoth bases white, however. In any case, I'd recommend working with the existing bases rather than chopping them off and rebasing.

I dont rebase but I do mount magnets under the bases so they donw slide around in transit.

Only the spaceships to be in line with my `normal` metal models. The rest only gets the haridryer treatment and repainted.

Not found a need to rebase…they're not as clunky as 'Clix or Dreamblade ones…just slap on a bit of textured emulsion and paint to required colour.

Thanks, guys. Looks like I'll keep them on their bases. Certain figure bases, like Tusken Raiders and sand troopers, I know I can texture with sand.

What's the "hairdryer treatment"?

Is it some way to straighten out the wavy wings on the spaceships?

Thanks,

w.

I've flocked the bases of all of mine – I hate flat black bases with a passion! My Sith have all been groundworked for "desert" to match the Sith planet map that comes with the current starter set. Most of the others were done in the usual, green-flock-and-gravel which means they are still reasonably neutral.

Most of them have some paint "improvements" as well, highlighting and a coat of the Dip.

The last few times we have played, we abandoned the idea of using the maps and set out a proper table of terrain and this improved the look of the game no end.

My SW minis all came with glossy black bases, perfectly suited for fighting on the glossy black decking in the Death Star ;)

Seriously, though, like Sumo Boy, I often worry over what 'terrain effect' I should shoot for…the basic black may be somewhat blah, but it is suitably neutral. And, as someone mentioned, I have squajillions of 'real miniatures' (no offense intended, I have hoardes of DDM & SWM) to worry about flocking to deal with 'good out of the box' pre-paints. A few touch-ups here and there, and they're good enough for my tastes.

I, too, like the black bases because of their neutrality and am fond of rationalizing them as character shadows.

No maps! 3D terrain is the only way to go.

I've thought about flocking the bases, but thats a daunting task for so many figs.

Yeah brother. Too much effort would be needed to flock all the figs I own.

Thanks,

John

LOL John, I actually did flock my Sand people, then said: "Screw This" and the rest have the stock black bases.
