Yes, I did it. On the urging of my friend Jim I bought a complete Samurai village, and a boat load of Perry 28mm Miniatures for Samurai. The intention is to use them to do 7 Samurai, Yojimbo, Sanjuro, Red Lion type scenarios. Things like Ninja raids, 47 Ronin, and the like. I already have massive forces in 15mm for battle scenarios, so the 28's are strictly for skirmish. What I need is a set of rules that can be played easily at conventions, and is designed for an RPG feel and individual combat. Any suggestions? Also looking for Cherry trees and Japanese bridges (with the high arch) for my Temple complex which needs a pond. The concept is to run two scales. An outdoor scale for the temple complexes and Samurai house and village and an indoor scale for when the the figures enter the buildings. As the figure enters the building I would move it to the "inside" table where it would have much closer quarters crashing through the paper walls, sliding doors and internal courtyards and the like. For fun, I can come up with rules for a Hanzo like house (Medieval Dirty Harry with a house that would make Jame Bond proud). This is a genre that is wildly rich with idea's for interesting games. |

We are working on a set of skirmish rules for samurai right now and will be show-casing them at Enfilade! 2008. I've been building a 28mm scale castle which is going alright at the moment, but will not have any interior detail as of the time of the convention, but will for Tactical Solutions. If you are going to be there – stop by and check out the action! |

I've been scouting for cherry trees as well but have found nothing suitable. I believe Scheltrum has a bridge or something suitable. I think there was also a Clan Wars bridge as well. However, I think a bridge can easily be built with balsa wood. |

I'm not too big on RPGs, in fact I've never played one, but if I did, it would be "Sengoku". RPG now has a nice deal on a bundle. go here and search for Sengoku, then scroll down the page a bit to find the bundle. rpgnow.com/index.php |

Bushido has an excellent skirmish combat system, though, because of the RPG roots, character or stat creation can be fiddly. Tried using Savage worlds for samurai, but didn't feel it worked. Been trying to find rules that show a fluid combat, and most seem to have the figures lock up in a fight and stay there until one is dead. Breaking off combat is too risky. |

I've been thinking Mordheim might do the trick. The rules are now free to download too! David kingsfordminiatures.org |
