I'm getting ready to build a couple of buildings for a VSF game I'm putting together. My problem is that while I know I want to have access to the interior, haveing doors the minis can fit through just looks really wierd to me. In the rules I currently use the minis are either in or out, so I was thinking of making the door the appropriate scale. But would this creat a problem if I try and use them on a diiferant game/rules? I would like something I could use over and over without to many problems. Any opinions on this would be greatly appreciated. - Dave |

Do you actually have to push them through the door? If the roof comes off, just do up and over. |

I usually do the 'up-and-over' as it's just a bit easier. |

If I was standing on a base the size of a paving stone, wearing a rucksack and a helmet (boddy armour too?) and holding an oversized weapon outstretched, there's no way I could pass through any door smaller than a barn. So, no, figures don't have to pass through them.. |

Yeah, I was a purist for "Zombies in NW Arkansas" Buildings. I had hinged doors that opened and such. For my Mexican Village I just built, most doors are 1 inch wide, because it looks right for the style. Up and Over, with true scale door measurements is fine. You may want removeable doors to insure that future new games have the option though. (My mexican village doors "pop" right out) |

Most game figures are absurdly bulky, even allowing for their oversized gear. Just compare a "normal" figure with one of the same scale that's supposed to be a passenger in a vehicle. The passenger is about half the size :) |

Most game figures have their proportions exaggerated in order to not look absurdly spindly. That's also why slightly larger than scale vehicles look best. Doors that are halfway between scale size and miniature sized would be a good compromise. Scale doors look much too small. |

I agree with Number6, slightly larger than realistic doors look right next to unnaturally bulky figures stood on a base, waving their arms about. |

For larger buildings, I build archways so the roof or second story does not have to come off. That way a player can reach in with his/her hand. Since figures may be on that roof or second story, it is just better not to try to move their platform. |

Of course, those that game Colonial with true to scale 1/72 plastic never have a problem! :) |
