Hello all,

Does anyone have any recommendations for books covering the campaigns in Tennesee and Mississippi? I'm looking for general history from a military standpoint as opposed to a social or political view.

Thanks in advance.

Regards, Bill

I recommend anything by Pete Cozzens

Pete Cozzens does a masterful job. I'd also highly recommend the two volume set Army of the Heartland by Connelly:

Thanks, I picked up Cozzens' trilogy. That will get me started for now. Connnelly is on the "wish list".

Try finding the books by Wiley Sword.

The Longest Night from a wargaming standpoint is outstanding.

Covers the entire war.

I knew I was going to need a new book case soon….

How would you rate James Lee McDonough? I saw his Shilo book in Borders the other day but was unsure about it. The copyright is 1977 and the information in it may be dated. Or am I being naive?

For Shiloh, I'd recommend Larry Daniel, Wiley Sword, or the new book by Cunningham (?).

Shiloh by Larry Daniel, Champion Hill by Timothy Smith are my two most recent readings for the Western Theater. I liked both, but then I can't remember reading an ACW book I didn't like.
The Daniel and Smith books contained lots of maps, which helped quite a bit. I think the Western Theater is finally getting the due it deserves.
