"How far would you go to protect your family and property?" Topic

A philosophical question, to be sure, but I was struck by the myriad of reactions to the Confederate occupation of York, PA as I studied old records for my new manuscript on the Louisiana Tigers.

Read the blog entry and note the actions of Sam Small. Would you have done the same thing in wartime, or would you have headed for the hills? Be honest! I kind of think I would have been one of the refugees, but I'd like to believe I would have had the same courage.

I'd be playing that Tom Petty song, Refugee.

What is it about?

Some folks have had firewall issues getting into the website for some reason; not sure why. I'm told it's a function of the settings on various browsers.

Pretty amazing story, but unfortunately, two of my ancestors were in the Louisiana Tigers at the time.

Anyone touching my property…be afraid, be very afraid.

And, no, I wouldn't give a darn about the law if someone tried to hurt my family, but I'd follow it concerning property theft or damage.

It's questions like these that make my old "country boy" come roaring to the surface. LOL

I of course, would very strongly prefer to keep on living. However, if faced with a situation where I could make a difference and save lives, I would not hesitate. But if I could fight and run away, I would.

Here in Columbus Ohio, we recently had a crossing gaurd shove an 8 year old kid out of the way of a very large truck and lost her life in the process. I think that if I went that way, I would die with a smile.

Property can be rebuilt, family is sacred. Burn the house don't care but if one of my family even coughs…..

Protect the family at all costs. Everything else is secondary.

Tales such as that happened on both sides. Unfortunately to a lot of Southern civilians the pleas fell on deaf ears as they watched their homes burn to the ground.

Before I commit myself here, are we including 'mothers-in-law' as family?

What would I do to protect my family and property? Some very, very nasty things indeed.

Agreed. As others here say, property can be replaced – family can't.

Family – No question, in light of a viable threat to their health or safety, I have the inalienable right to protect them from harm.

Family, anything, property we have the police.

Family first. If it looks like I need to relocate to protect them, we are on the road. Otherwise I think we can "weather the storm".

Anyone threatening my family will be having a lucky day if the object that connects with their head is blunt.
