…gives you 4 big battalions and 8 spare officers that will make excellent Fire and Fury breakthrough markers and 1 spare drummer, rifleman or flag carrier. You get one marching and one firing/loading battalion for both sides

The good news is that these battalions only cost £12.00 GBP per battalion! Try to beat that price in metal! ;-)

and before someone asks, no, I'm not a sock puppet for the Perry's, just a happy customer. ;-)

Fonzie, that's a great idea about the spare officers. I also play Fire & Fury rules, and the plastic officers are perfect for breakthrough markers. Good thought.

How are the contents "arranged?" How do you get 4 equal battalions and have an odd number – 9 figs – left over? How big are your battalions? Thanks.

Well… counting the figures in the pictures, looks like 36 figures per unit. But then these %$#&$ bi-focals give me a problem from time to time.

You can make the following from 4 boxes if you give the Union sack coats (with a few shell jackets in between them) and the Rebs shell jackets:

33 marching Confederates;
36 loading/firing Confederates;
30 loading/firing Union;
36 marching Union.

My Union battalions have two flag carriers and an officer and the Confederates have an officer, flag carrier and drummer.

You can of course use the spare officers too but I haven't done that, I rather use them as markers.

How long did it take you to glue all of those guys together?

"How long did it take you to glue all of those guys together?"

About 2 hours. On most of them you only need to glue a hat or cap.

Fonzie, thanks for the update. I am seriously tempted myself to buy some of those figures and get back into ACW.

Tell me, how do you play Fire and Fury in 28mm? I have only played it in 10mm and 15mm, so I'm interested to see what changes you make.

I don't think plastic ACW will be cheaper for me as I suspect I will just buy more figures for each unit. Those 36 figure battalions look great!

legatushedlius: you make an interesting point.

Back in "the good old days" you saw in the glossies (Wargames Illustrated and the like) large 36 or even 60 figure units displayed. Many collectors, and many of our local wargamers commonly had these vast collections. The prices seemed lower and thus it is possible you could think to create these wargames. But as prices grew --or is it that our available disposable income to put into our hobby has diminished? --- (I think it is the latter) we have thought to maximize the number of tactical units by making them smaller and more 'representational'. Current popular rule sets are based more upon elements than upon the old type of rules in which the individual figure equaled so-and-so men and thus have 'helped' us in taking this route. e.g. "These four guys on that element are the 93th Regiment"

With a much less expensive option, again wargamers are thinking big as has 'Fonzie'

I haven't played 28mm Fire and Fury yet because my collection of painted units is still too small so sorry, can't tell you yet what changes to make. There's a regimental level mod for F&F somewhere on the Internet but I have not looked for it yet.

"With a much less expensive option, again wargamers are thinking big as has 'Fonzie'"

I have never stopped thinking big when it comes to my ACW units, but I'm mighty glad that with these new plastics popping up all over the place I won't have to worry anymore about if I should feed my son or buy a new, big ACW regiment! I can do both now. ;-)))
