Hello I am an avid fan of Mark Smylie's Artesia series and interested in looking at what options there are out there to field a 25/28mm army from the series. Probably I will use WAB rules. While equipment seems comparable to late late 14th and 15th century Europe I am not sure if everything goes. The armies that interest me the most are Artesia's own mixed army of Highland companies,Citadel Bannermen and League, Palatian and Amoran mercs or allies. A mixed THessid-Dumeghal force with Thessid and Vanomorian calvary, Dumeghal calvary, Imerial line infantry and calvary regiments, Golani pike, Metic horse archers, and Imperial guard. Seems to be a mix of Russian/Ottoman/Persian and Hungarian elements and styles. A Middle Kingdoms army. Easiest to make maybe as it is closest to late medieval Europe. Any ideas and proposals are welcome. For more info on the comic see daradja.com artesiaonline.com |

I spoke to Mark Smylie at GenCon a couple of years ago, and he's hoping to eventually get a miniatures line for the RPG together, but who knows how long that might take? Sorry I don't have anything helpful to add, I just thought this was cool information to get out there

Interesting info. I used to communicate with Mark during the early stages of the Artesia RPG discussions(go to the forward of the RPG book and look at the paragraph before the last). He is a great illustrator and swell guy. I hope he gets more recognition. On the wargame question though I would say that maybe he should get down with the WAB and maybe publish a supplement for Artesia
wistfull thinking maybe, but the world is too well thought off. Maybe I should contact him again. |

I think 15th-Century western Europe is right on. I think that the bulk can come from any range that does this well, and then I would go to some of the darker fantasy lines for some of the individual minis, witches, werid skirmishers, etc. I might also try some head swapping so that chartacters and important folk could A) be female and B) have unarmored heads. |
