Hello

I intend to start a Nicopolis 28mm crusade army for WAB: Vlad the Impaler and was wondering which miniatures would fit best to represent a hypothetical Bulgarian heavy calvary contingent. My thoughts are either for Gripping Beasts Russian Druhzina, or TAG Russian calvary? Opinions? Porposals?

I also look at 25mm.

Look at Old Glory "Mongols in Europe" range. They have Hungarian/Polish retainers that do not come with bow case, but can be used for Bulgarian nobles or lesser nobles. "German light cavalry" also will work very well and they come with bows. I would mix them in the Noble units and claim that the whole unit has bows.

Old Glory Polish medieval or renissance range have Lituanian Boyars that are almost perfect for Nobles, but have no bows. They have "capalin" helmets and scale armor that was used a lot by Byzantines. All you'll have to do is to find separate bow cases from some other manufacturer and glue them to horses.

IMO, GB Russians are too Eastern looking to be right for 14th century Bulgarian cavalry. Same for TAG Russians, and also some of their equipment didn't exist in 14th century. Saying that there is no reason that some of the Bulgarian Nobles didn't have armor just like GB Russians. BTW, I am painting those Russians right now.

Thank you very much. I think I will go for GB even if they are not 100% correct historically since they are such beautiful miniatures.
