I have two 25mm units I need shield designs for.

Old Glory WOR Irish kerns, Dude isin a shirt, no pants. Shield is ival, wicker backed, probably leather face. Any suggestions. beyond Zulu cowhide? ("How are t'ings in Dublin, Eamon?")

Old Glory HYW Scottish spearmen. Quilted gambeson. He has a small heater shield.

For the Scots, you could look at the Court of Lord Lyon King at Arms – the heraldic authority for Scotland:

Scottish heraldry more or less followed the same rules as English heraldry – you won't find much in the way of fancy Celtic knotwork, for example. If you want your lad to look especially Scottish, you can probably paint a Saltire on the shield – which has a nice bonus of being easy to paint!

The Irish Kern shields were a plain leather really John so different shades of leather browns would be your best bet

Agree plain leather for these shields. However I have seen a reference to cavalry shields been decorated in the 1500s.

Anothe roption is to swap out some of the oval shields for round targes with leather and studwork that is what I did for a bit of variety.

There's a thread in the Ebob Miniatures Forum that includes a number of shield and banner designs for the Scots, and English.
