Torpedo Bomber! by Ralph Barker, SBN 345-23755-125, Published by Ballentine Books Inc.

This book details the lives and missions of the crews that flew Beaufort torpedo bombers for the RAF Coastal Command in WWII. The book provides information about operations against Axis shipping off the coast of Europe and later in the Mediteranean.

The book is very engaging and I found it hard to put down once I started reading it.

There is enough detail in the book for those who want to create individual wargame scenarios for solo or multi-player games. The book covers some unique air-to-air engagements between different types of bombers and seaplanes as well as figher vs bomber. Yes, it also covers the primary mission of attacking enemy ships.

At different points in the book the following were involved in engagements:
Allied Aircraft: Beauforts, Alabacores, Swordfish, Beaufighers, Blenheims, Spitfires, Wellingtons, and Hudsons.
Axis Aircraft: FW-190, Me-109, Me-110, He-115, Ju-88, CANT flying boat, Br.20s, and Macchi fighters.
Targets: Axis capital ships, escorts, and various merchant ships.

I enjoyed the book and recommend it. It's still available from various websites.

I believe I got that book in around 1980. It's a fantastic read.

Good book – the guts in keeping level and straight through flak knowing odds were against you….
