Norfolk 250N or Flight deck Stain 21, depending on which ship and at what time. Both were a blue/gray color.

Yup. Testors makes a flight deck blue in their acrylic Poly S (or used to be) and their naval line. The Independence class were all deployed after the US had gone to blue stain for flight decks.

GHQ sells a good deck blue as well.

Deck Blue 20B was used on horizontal deck surfaces EXCEPT for the flight deck.

Which was covered with Deck Blue 21 stain as noted above.

Right, because the navy thought that painting the wood flight decks would reduce the friction co-efficient of the deck, making it harder to stop landing aircraft. So they developed a stain for the deck that was as close to Deck Blue as they could get.

So is the deck blue almost black? I have a 1/300 scale carrir that I am scratch building for a game and I was wondering what I could mix to get the deck color.

Thanks
Jeff

Poly Scale and Testors MM acrylics do the deck blue 20B. Testor's is a shade lighter than the Poly Scale and IMHO looks better for a ship exposed to the sun and salt at sea. Testors also does the flight deck stain 21, which is very close to their deck blue 20B
