Anyone got a good list and reviews of small scale, preferably 1/700 scale, naval aircraft? I'm familiar with Trumpeteer, but I'm also looking for other ranges (such as WWII German and Japanese).

Thank you very much

Skywave's tend to be very good, and are the only firm with a decent range of non-Pacific theatre aircraft.

I'll second Skywave. Tskuda is older and can lean towards the poor side. Their is also Pit-road. I own 100's of these aircraft probably approaching a 1000. Love em.

Thanks,

John

I meant I love 1/700 not just Pit-road.

Thanks,

John

Pit-Road and Skywave are the same company – these days they market the plastic as Skywave and the (heinously expensive but superb) white metal as Pit Road. The usual suspects like Tamiya and Fujimi also make 'em, but pretty much US and Japanese carrier aircraft only. Obviously I'm biased, but I long since abandoned 1/700 for the slightly chunkier 1/600 metal models (mainly Tumbling Dice) as they're easier to paint and have a much wider range readily available.

Dom

Excuse plug: domsdecals.com – stockist of Tumbling Dice, and maker of 1/600 decals, the smaller sizes of which are also just dandy on 1/700…. ;-)

I like the TD 1/600 stuff for WWII (I get 'em from Dom).

I've been looking for a U.S. distributor of Pit-Road. I like their very modern stuff, like the F-22 and the latest Russian models.

Anyone know a U.S. source for Pit-Road?

Pacific Front are the only US dealer I know of for Pit Road, although the plastics are easy enough to get. The plastic modern Russian jets are very nice, and I do have a set of the metal Raptors; think I got them from Hobbylink Japan, who are frequently the best option: hlj.com

Wherever you buy from, Pit-Road availability is consistently poor; they don't keep stuff in production, but rather seem to run x number of castings and move on; a common business model in Japan for some reason, but intensely frustrating if you're trying to build a collection, as at any given time nobody stocks all you need, and frequently at least some items are utterly unavailable….

Well, for full disclosure I have already bought some 1/600 Tumbling Dice aircraft and LOVE em! I just have too many 1/700 to walk away from. However, I still plan on picking up load of Korean to Modern War jets from Dom soon! Also need some of his very nice decals. Wanna play the new version of Airwar from Wessex Games.

Thanks,

John
