Okay, so I got my copy of Mutants ond Death Ray Guns, now what figures are suitable for mutant plants?

I know there are a fair number of Treeman figures out the, but what else?

GW's Dryads come to mind, I always liked them: link

What else? Maybe I'm coming at this the wrong way, maybe I should convert terrain pieces?

Hey Gonk:

Under our Primal Dawn range, we have a race of plantmen called Vardu. Right now, we only have the small plants. However, soon we'll be releasing the larger Vardu warriors--54mm tall giant plant men with large organic clubs. later this year we'll be releasing dog-like plant creatures with Venus flytrap heads and bloated spore shooting fungi.

You can find the Vardu sprouts here:

I just ordered my printed copy of Mutants and Death Rays tonight. I really loved Gamma World and these rules look like they will offer some old school post-apocalyptic fun!

Armorcast also has some really cool alien carniverous plants. You might want to see if you can get some tyranid hive markers and spore mines.

I'm very excited about getting the MDRGs rule too. There is a Tendril Queen in the Horrorclix Lab series.

I too love Gamma World. I can't wait to print out my copy and start running it!

Fenryll did a couple of mutant plants.

Reaper does some nice Mushroom men (which I happen to already have, thinking about it…can't say I have usually thought about mutated plants, but it does make a nice change of pace!)

All the above suggestions are great, Hydra is mentioned in the book, plus there is always the option to scratch build some. I did mine with floral wire and greenstuff (how appropriate!) while my colleague built some from bits, pieces of bark, tinfoil, paper etc. You can see picture of our scratchbuilt plants on the song of blades yahoo group (ours are in 15mm scale)

Try flocking some of your least favorite minis for an odd mossman effect.

1905Adventure06 Apr 2008 1:27 a.m. PST

Mossman is awesome. That would totally work (if not look a little strange).

Despite not being a fan of GW's products, their Dryads are very, very cool and would work well for 28mm mutant trees.

The Dark Age Broodlings and Puds could, with a bit of minor conversion, pass as young carnivorous plant types.

Steve Flanagan06 Apr 2008 3:54 a.m. PST

Either Kallistra or Pendraken does an Audrey II in 10mm which could be a smaller carnivore in larger scales.

Various companies do Swamp Thing-alike creatures. Reaper has a couple, I think. And there's probably an official Heroclix one.

The Black Tree Doctor Who range might include Krynoids and Vervoids.

I've been thinking about using models of jelly fish; Try this link and browse the section on jelly fish.

Jelly fish! Thats a cool ideal.

If you look down that link there is some sea plants too – they would make great mutant plants.

Also there is octopussi – DWW will be happy!

Here is an article on making mutated veg and stuff.

I'd forgotten QRF! The range has some other plants as well as Triffids.

Honourable Lead Boiler Suit Company does a Triffid too.

David Musser06 Apr 2008 7:48 a.m. PST

I've used rubber fishing lures/worms to make alien vegitation, the same could be used to make mutant plants.

GeoffQRF06 Apr 2008 8:19 a.m. PST

Nope no triffids. The Wyndham estate were quite specific about that.

But we do have a variety of other little plants, stingers, grapplers, shooters, all in just over 15mm.

We do have some larger masters of the same thing somewhere too. Suitable for 25mm. Must find out where Chas put them.

For humanoid plants, the Cobalt Palansi would work: link

The RAFM Dark Young figure would work great as a Huge Entangler: link

Cyborg Trucker:

Count me in! I've got my copy ready to go. I just need to get some more suitable minis.

Randall06 Apr 2008 8:15 p.m. PST

This is going to me a "me too!" post, but I'll second Nathaniel's recommendation for GW's Dryads.

There are enough pieces in each box to build 12 dryads and if you buy from a store that offers a regular discount (many places offer 15-20% off), that will equal about $2.67 USD each (and that includes shipping). Not bad at all for a full squad/troop (copse?) of some mutant tree people.

Randall06 Apr 2008 8:28 p.m. PST

Ok, now that I've read the original post, I feel like a bit of a dolt since The Gonk mentioned the GW dryads as well. Urgh.

Thieses08 Apr 2008 6:09 a.m. PST

Fenrryll makes some killer plants in their Sci-fi line. They are similar in design to the Armorcast figures, but they are smaller. (scroll down I wasn't able to link the pics)

There are two sets. Also the "Space Creatures" look like plant-like monssters to me.
