I'm looking for figures to be UNIT troops for Doctor Who(basically modern infantry).

So, does anyone have any suggestions for cheap modern 25/8mm figures ($1.50/fig or less), other than Battlefield Evolution (already considering those)? Not interested in green army men type figures though.

Something from one of the collectable miniatures games would be great, but I don't think Hero/Horrorclix or D&D Minis have something like this, & Halo's way too futuristic.

Thanks

The Assault Group modern Brits: £4.95 GBP for 4
Mo-Fo Falklands War Brits (from Gripping Beast): £4.50 GBP for 4
Mongrel 1980s Brits: £8.00 GBP for 8
Black Tree Design 1970s Dr Who UNIT troops: £2.50 GBP each or £19.99 GBP for 7

TAG, BTD and Mo-Fo do figures in berets, which is what you want for UNIT.

Hmmm. Looks like you'd better hope the Dollar recovers. Or that the next series of Character Options Dr Who Micro-Universe figures (if there is one) includes UNIT after their prominent role in the Sontaran story this year.

Black Cavalier05 Apr 2008 9:27 a.m. PST

Yeah, already checked all those options last night. Don't understand though how BTD can sell a pack of 7 for 20 pounds, while 7 individual figures would be 17.50.

We're not getting the Microverse figures over here yet. & from what I understand, even if we did, & there was UNIT figures in them, they'd still be more than the price I'm looking for.

Thanks

Copplestone Future Troopers make a good "near future" UNIT.

EM4 Future Troopes for ultra modern UNIT, around $2.50 USD each I believe.

Unfortunately, the Copplestone figures are over $3 USD each here in the US.

The website of Old Glory 15s, US distributor of Gripping Beast, doesn't list the MoFo line, but I emailed to ask.

The plastic EM4 troopers do look like a good possibility.

Thanks for the leads.

Take a look at the Old Glory 25mm, WWII British Infantry. Many of them would be useable as UNIT troops. They come in a pack of 10 for $13.50 USD

Also, MegaMiniatures sells "SWAT Team" figures that might serve, and these are only $1 USD each.

I did note they were on sale in San Francisco when I was across in February in one shop ("Things From Another World" in the Metreon center) and they weren't horrendously inflated (pretty much a straight exchange rate conversion from UK prices).

Eureka makes some good moderns that are pretty cheap. Problem is they don't mix with other mini ranges very well so be careful.

The Mongrel British and the Mo-Fo British were both sculpted by Andy Dormer, so they are identical in size and shape. Mongrel figures are in camouflaged helemts, and have a Milan ATWG missile, which may Sloppy Jalopy do a Saxon APC, which appeared in a recent Dr.Who series.
