Invasion stripe decals for 15mm planes? Anyone? A mate has got some die-cast Mustangs and wants invasion stripes put on them. I'm not sure my hand is steady enough to do a good job. And secondly, has anyone started making 15mm Fokker CXs yet? |

Hi Have you asked at armaments in miniature, maybe 1 of his sets has the stripes in link MH :-) |

Perhaps something like a post-it note would serve to mask the stripe edges for painting and keep them straight without lifting off paint? |

It shouldn't be difficult to paint them if you can find some good masking tape like that sold by Testors. They sell the stuff precut into the appropriate widths and all you need to do then is apply the paint. I've done it this way before, and it works out pretty good. Applying the tape is the main issue. |

Get a sheet of black decal stock. Cut stripes of the appropriate width and length. Paint a white panel on the model. Put black decal stripes over the white panel. |

Thanks folks! Zippy – your idea sounds the most workable. So where would I get black decal stock from? Anyone recommend a friendly UK supplier? |

Just paint the stripes on. Draw paralel lines about 6mm apart around your plane, and paint in between the lines. The stripes were hand painted in a hurry by the ground crews on june 5th, so a bit of wobble is quite acceptable and historically accurate. |

Draw parallel lines about 6mm apart around your plane I can't see where the Wiki link got it from but: "On single-engined aircraft each stripe was to be 18 inches wide, placed 6 inches inboard of the roundels on the wings and 18 inches forward of the leading edge of the tailplane on the fuselage. National markings and serial number were not to be obliterated. On twin-engined aircraft the stripes were 24 inches wide, placed 24 inches outboard of the engine nacelles on the wings, and 18 inches forward of the leading edge of the tailplane around the fuselage." Source: link That would make them 4.5mm stripes for single engined aircraft, 6mm on twins. |

freerangeegg, while a bit of wobble might be accurate, Dom's freehand will be exxagerated 100 times. Almost certainly not "historically accurate" if they're wobbly by a scale 5" or so! |
