We all know of them and we all love them. What are they? They are Anime Figures! picture picture And I'm trying to create rules for them! I'm thinking about creating a rule set as said before, ranging from the Gasphon (Keychain figures) which are like one inch or more to the large sized figures to be included in this ruleset. This will sort of be like a WAB ruleset based game and i'm thinking of designing my own world for this with armies featuring each 'faction' sort of. Some of these factions include Tentacles, Demons, Monsters, The Religious League (think of Crusades and inquistion) and of course, the Anime Figures. So as i'm setting off for this adventure, I'd just like to know if you would play with this rule set (why or why not) and what you would like to see in it? |

OMG! Ponies!!! Seriously, though, it sounds like fun. What are you using for the Tentacles? |
| Dave Crowell | 02 Apr 2008 10:18 a.m. PST |
I would play if I could find the figures and the rules were fun. This is way out in left field for me, but I'd be up for trying it. |

I would have some interest but it would would have to include rules for Magical Girls. Regards, the Gorb |

It's already been done. See: link |

No. I do not like the aesthetics. There are so many near-future or sci-fi figures that appeal to my aesthetics (like Shadowrun, BattleTech, or Babylon's Burning). |

I've already been using those mechamusame figures in Monster Island Games. (now it's The Game of Giant Catgirl Fighting!) There's no reason why a magical catgirl with airplane fuselages for legs couldn't become giant sized to fight Godzilla if needed. Those 4" tall figures work great with 4" kaiju. The first session of Monster Island at Anime Boston this year had a very poetic climax when it was the giant flying catgirl with the twin stens who destroyed the model of the Hynes Convention Center where the con was being held. The tentacle did come into play too -- in a few of the later games, it was Dogora the flying jellyfish from outerspace that killed the Strike Witch Spitfire. picture You may want to check out Collateral Damage for insprition. The game has a lot of neat concepts which could translate from the board game to a minis game. I think some of the rules mechanics are more convoluted than neceassary and would benefit from a major streamlining. collateraldamagethegame.com There's also Whack-A-Catgirl, a very fun card game. Not so useful for applying to a minis game, but thought I'd give it a plug, it's a lot of fun ^-^ asmadigames.com/ourgames.php |

Wow, thanks for the comments! Cpt Arexu, Tentacle monsters would be almost any tentacleized demon, or just a bunch of those fuzzy pipe wire thingys glued togeather! Tentacles can be anything you wish! Mike Snorbens, this isn't a D&D game, but a game like WAB. Full army list, a huge variety of races, groups and theme's to play as. the Gorb, Magical School girls will always be included! miniMo, wow I didn't know that the Spitfire was used! That looked totally awesome! Also the Whack a catgirl looked totally something I would play. Thanks for informing me! pavelft, I haven't heard of Anima tactics. Could you explain that game to me please? |

We all know of them and we all love them. Speak for yourself. I am usualy loathe to rain on someone else's fun. I hate it when someone chips in with "That sucks" when I try to discuss something. However, in this case I will make an exception. Do NOT assume that everyone likes that
stuff. |
| CPBelt | 02 Apr 2008 1:43 p.m. PST |
No because no one touches my son's collection of anime figures. He has them all on display with original boxes or still in their clam shells. They cost way more than any miniature. |

"Mike Snorbens, this isn't a D&D game, but a game like WAB. Full army list, a huge variety of races, groups and theme's to play as." Depends what Anime you watch. The ones I've seen (and read as Manga) are definitely more D&D then big battle. Still, each to their own. |

The ONLY game I would ever play with animé, is if I was a Doomsday machine in charge of entirely wiping out the entire animé UNIVERSE!!! |
| Saxondog | 02 Apr 2008 4:33 p.m. PST |
Personally, I'll try almost any game at least once. I can't say if I'd play again or not til that one game. |

I like how you can identify the stick in the mud people on this thread that think all anime is the same. It's not a genre people it's a french term that's been stapled onto japanese animation to seperate it from western stuff. And there's alot more to it than just magical girl stuff, pokemon, and Power Rangers. Try the Ghost in the Shell tv series sometime. Kicks Firefly's butt up and down in terms of believable future, and just about everything else. :) |
| WeeSparky | 02 Apr 2008 6:06 p.m. PST |
It would give me an excuse to buy the anime/manga anim anime/m |
| BaharluTribe | 02 Apr 2008 9:09 p.m. PST |
LordLoveaDoug, what an extreme point of view. While I might play this game, you seriously need to change your attitude. How about someone said that about ancients/whatever you game in. I believe it would cause an uproar. While you may not like it, destorying or talking about destorying it in my view, paints a very poor view of you. |

I can see playing with the trading figures. Not too big and not too expensive. But as the figures get bigger the price curve goes way up. And I see they have a new Mizuho Kazame figure coming out just in time for my tax return. Oh well, at least that is one less to paint in my paint pile. |
Rogzombie | 02 Apr 2008 10:20 p.m. PST |
I think something like would be very cool but confined to the 6" or 8" figs, they do get very expensive, worth it but very expensive. Uh, as far as input, maybe ways to customize so you can use whatever you already have or would like to have. Androids, mechas alchemists, demons, school girls, cybersuit girls, big martial arts guys, etc. |

Yeah, I was thinking of doing it with the Trading figures, but also wanted to include a couple of the big ones as I don't want anything to be left out. I have a question though, thats the legal issue on using pictures of different anime figures and putting the copyright symbol and the companies name at the bottom of the picture? Would I have to contact the companies and ask for permission or how does it work? |
| blackscribe | 03 Apr 2008 6:56 a.m. PST |
Quite a few anime shows include heroes that can destroy large sections of real estate casually. That'd be kind of hard to make a fun game out of. I have one where they pull back to space so you can see the effects of the protagonist swinging his sword. Among other things, the Great Wall Of China gets cleaved. He wasn't in China at the time. |
| jpattern2 | 03 Apr 2008 8:23 a.m. PST |
I'm with the OFM on this one, too. I've watched a dozen or so animes all the way through, and bits and pieces of dozens of others. Some interesting concepts, and some interesting hardware designs, but overall they just leave me cold. And that's the sci-fi animes. The fantasy ones I've seen are even worse, IMHO. For what it's worth, I feel the same about just about all non-anime "action" animation, too. |

Katchemash - Don't let me stop you writing your own rules if you want to, but in the meantime you might take a look at a wonderfully flexible set of rules called Animouch!, which is online here: link |
| Daffy Doug | 03 Apr 2008 9:34 a.m. PST |
How about someone said that about ancients/whatever you game in. I would unite all my little troops to attack the infestation of the dreaded, Cosmic Animé Doomsday Machine, what else could I do? Which in fact is what I do: I can't stand the art form/style, that's all. I have nothing against the stories per se, only the visuals. |
| Grizwald | 03 Apr 2008 10:46 a.m. PST |
"at a wonderfully flexible set of rules called Animouch!, " That's the second recommendation for Animouch so far. |

I have been uising Giant Monster Rampage rules with my Dragon Ball Z gashapons for a long time. In Dragon Ball Z the characters can smash buildings and throw cars. Why not a new set of Anime rules? That would be cool. |
| Warbeads | 10 May 2008 4:55 a.m. PST |
Referring to original statement. Know them? Barely. Daughter like the art style. Don't like 99 to 100% of them. Maybe a Cultural thing. Buy rules? No. Play them? Highly unlikely. Good luck. Gracias, Glenn |
