Well, the new Star Wars CMG set hit the stores this week, and I've already bought a few. I've not read many of the Star Wars novels, so most of the new characters in this set are unfamiliar to me. Most of the figures look pretty good, although some are less nice than others, just like all the previous sets.

Last night I participated in a sealed box tournament at a local shop. Players had to buy two boosters and then build a 200-point force to be used in three 45-minute games. Points were awarded based on kills. I finished in third place out of ten players, so I was happy with my performance. I inflicted most of my damage using Shado Vao, a New Republic Twi'lek Jedi, although he came close to getting killed in my third game.

It appears that all of the light sabers in this set are white, which seems a little odd. I also think the Mandalorian Gunslinger is one of the nicest looking Star Wars figures ever made.

Anyone else buy these yet?

Correction: Only the Imperial light sabers are white. Shado Vao's and Luke Skywalker's sabers are blue.

I pre-ordered some singles, should be getting them this coming week. I like the look of the Galactic Alliance soldiers, they'll make decent generic future troopers. I don't play the SW Minis game, but I use the figures with Stargrunt 2 or other rules.

The Imperial Knights from the comics do have white light sabers. I think they're basically non-Jedi Force users in personal service to the Emperor, or something along those lines.

I'm Star Wars'd out. I think that there are too many 'expanded universe' figures in this set.

I'll pick up a few singles on ebay.

I think that there are too many 'expanded universe' figures in this set.

Quite true, that is the intent of the set after all. But in every set there are always at least a handful of figures that make good additions to the general pile of "shady starport scum" types, or for your rag-tag Rebel band. And usually they're the ones that go for less than a buck on eBay.

You've got a point. I might have another look.

I gotta admit I like the Star Wars game. I never did prepaints before. I've been painting for 25 years now. But on a whim I bought a starter set two weeks ago and got hooked. With 4 kids at home it's hard to find time to paint the way I used to. In addition I bought singles online so I knew what I was getting. I spent $75 USD to get free shipping and ended up wit an AT-AT, two different AT-ST's, stormtroopers, rebels, wookies and tusken raiders. If I tried to do this in resin or lead I couldn't imagine the cost. The rules are fine and if I get bored with them I'll throw the figures into a Fantastic Worlds game or Star Grunt II. So I'm enjoying it for the time being. ~Robert

I picked couple of boosters at BAM today. The box art is REALLY eye catching. My pulls were so-so, but I am pleased with the rest, paint and sculpt-wise. I swear, My very first Rebel Storms booster, also bought on a whim, was BOBA FETT. And I don't think I have pulled a 'very rare' since. How very rare is 'very rare', anyway?

I just started collecting them and it's fun. I picked up 3 boosters and got 2 rares, Darth Talon, And Kyle Katarn.

Last night while shopping at Target I stumbled across the Battle of Hoth scenario pack, which I didn't even know existed. It comes with 17 miniatures from Episode V, and includes two exclusive models: a unique AT-ST (called Blizzard Scout I), and a Hologram of General Veers, which allows troopers to call in fire support missions. It also has a Hoth battle map and a rule booklet with a couple of scenarios. Now I need to visit my local comic book store and pick up some more Snowtroopers to beef up my forces.

The Beast Rampant05 Apr 2008 1:20 p.m. PST

I keep picking it up, but man, $60 USD is steep. I hope my local Target holds on to theirs long enough to drop the price a bit.

svsavory05 Apr 2008 1:49 p.m. PST

Yeah, $60 USD certainly wasn't cheap, but I didn't hesitate. They only had one set on the shelf, and many of the miniatures(Luke and Han on Tauntauns, Snowtrooper with E-Web Blaster, for example) are re-issues of rare figures that can be expensive if you can find them as singles. My set was shrink-wrapped with a Bounty Hunters booster. I'm very happy with my new toys.

Has the quality of the paint job, on the new Legacy series gotten worse? The ones I have are really bad, and the photos of the actual miniatures on the Ebay are really bad also. I mean compared to the poster there is a serious misrepresentation going on.

Xintao06 Apr 2008 11:56 a.m. PST

Havn't seen the poster, but I think they are ok. Much better than Alliance and Empire.

svsavory06 Apr 2008 2:36 p.m. PST

I think the Legacy series is about the same quality as the previous sets. That is, some figures look good but others aren't as nice. As I mentioned above, I think the Mandalorian Gunslinger is an especially nice looking figure.
