What color would Gordon Highlanders bagpipes be in Afghanistan? Your usual khaki jacket pipers on campaign against Wily Johnnie Pathan. |

I assume that you are referring to the bag cover – the pipes themselves would be dark coloured wood (African blackwood), with finials of ivory or silver. Judging by this piece: link the bag cover should be the same as the tartan on the kilt. Cheers Will |

Here's another image – the bag cover is a bit easier to see on this one: link |

I came across this, im ny "research": picture and it didn't look quite right. The bag seems to be a very dark gray, or black. so, I thought I would ask here. |

That one looks like a tartan cover as well – just covered in dust! |

Pipe bag cover trivia, from the City of Denver Pipe Band site: link "Kirby Vacuum Convention, ca. 1985: Sly pipers acquired the logo fabric of the famous Kirby vacuum cleaner bags and sewed up pipe bag covers.. The festive dinner crowd thought they were being somehow serenaded by their own vacuums, and went quite mad. (Distasteful comments on the similarity of the two sounds followed.)" Allen |

I don't think khaki bag covers came into use until the Boer War – seem to remember something written by Denyz Reitz (sp?) about the British Highland units initially wearing tartan and only after being shot at getting khaki aprons. |

That's the problem when you Google a 1" square "Image", and it enlarges to 1.5". And, you haven't got mew glasses in 4 years. Allen, that's a fun link. So, Gordon's it is, then! |
