Great news, especially for all of the families involved. I always remember reading Captain Detmers account of his ship "Kormoran" and their final epic battle with the Sydney. |

Well Done Folks. To the officers and men of the HMAS Sydney, thank you. May we be worthy. |

They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old: Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn. At the going down of the sun and in the morning We will remember them. |

I just got this email at work – interesting timing: "18 March 2008, 12.10pm – 1pm Lunchtime talk on HMAS Sydney, Mysteries and Myths with guest speaker Dr Tom Lewis OAM The light cruiser, lost in combat with the German raider Kormoran, disappeared in November 1941. Dr Lewis has recently published ‘What the wreck of the Sydney may reveal' and as an experienced shipwreck historian, he will bring a realistic approach to this enduring maritime mystery. Northern Territory Library is open to everyone." Now he can get to see how close to reality his ideas are. |

There's a library in the NT? With books and everything? Certainly a day for amazing news ;-) |

"There's a library in the NT? With books and everything?" Of course there is. They are etched on old Darwin Stubbies. |

We're still busy wandering around catching crocs and wrestling buffaloes – so we aint got much time for no fancy-pants book reading. |

I wonder how long it will take the 'pirate' salvage operators to move in like they did with the Prince of Wales & the Repulse? IIRC they had removed the bronze propellors within a few months of the location being published, and they were much deeper than the Sydney & Kormoran. |

Perhaps the wreck being 2km down might be a deterent for pirates? |
