Can anyone please point me to a good source for information on Bavarian coat facings for SYW. I have found a number of sites but they give conflicting information. I have found an illustration showing Herzog Clemens with Yellow facings and another site giving the facings as red. Is there a good book source?. I am fairly certain Leib was black but all the others have contradicting info. How reliable is Pengel and Hurt on this topic.

I would not hesitate to trust P&H on this issue. I also put lots of faith on Knotel plates.

While one should normally trust P&H do not go by what they say in "Uniforms of Swedish and German States, Line and Cannon" because they describe the coat colour as cornflower blue. You need to get their "Bavaria, Saxony, the Palatine – a supplement" in which they convincingly argue for dark blue coats in the SYW.

I hope this chart comes out:
Regiment – Collars, Cuffs, Lapels-Buttons/Hatlace-Camisols and breeches

Leibregiment- white White White
Kurprinz- white yellow white
Minucci- yellow white yellow (red camisol?)
Morawitsky- straw white ?
Preysing- red white straw
Herz.Klemens red yellow white
Pechmann straw yellow ?
Holnstein red yellow straw

To clarify, first colour is Collars, cuffs and Lapels.
Second colour is button and hat lace.
Third colour is for camisols and breeches.

And on the subject of the Leibregiment, the order to change from white to black was made on Sept 15 1760 and at the same time drummers were ordered to switch to pale blue coats. Some of the remaining companies switched coat colour from dark to light blue in 1761 – the remaining companies were ordered to wear out their dark blue coats so the regiment would have look rather muddled post 1761.

All in all, the Bavarian army is difficult to get right during the SYW

Many thanks – Paints open and brushes at the ready.

The Bavarians had dark blue coats in the beginning of the 7YW, till about 1761 – when a lighter blue was introduced.
